Travel the World With Jeong Sewoon in “20 Something”

Solo artist Jeong Sewoon is back with his 2nd mini-album Another. The music video of the title track “20 Something” was released on July 23. After about six months he is back and showing a new side of him with this new release. Previously Jeong Sewoon has done EDM tracks, but now he changed it up with having only instruments creating the melody.

When the music video starts, as a viewer it feels like you enter a dream sequence. Soft instrumental music playing in the background, shots of vintage and retro items, and a blurry filter make it even more convincing that you have entered a dream. Sewoon sits down by a table at the back of a theater as the only person in the room before the video on the theater screen starts as well as the music of “20 Something.”

The rest of the music video shows Sewoon traveling around mostly via train. The atmosphere is dark and the colors used are cool-toned. We get to see him play both piano and guitar in the video. The piano scenes are set in an open landscape to mainly focus on him playing rather than on a busy background. Every other scene shows him exploring the places he is at and just enjoying his time alone, performing on the streets, taking pictures, writing, and eating food. A lot of the shots of him walking are filmed from behind, making the viewer feel as if they are following him around.

“20 Something” has a soft, jazzy melody, and it is close to being a ballad. Lyrics are positive and uplifting, and the song is about being young and seeing everything as a new start, that it does not matter if things hurt a little, just get up again and keep going. The song is different from a lot of typical releases by idols during summer, choosing to go with pure instruments like piano, drums, guitar, and bass instead of an EDM track, and it is one of those songs you listen to while relaxing and enjoying the sun or watching the sunset.
