Powerful BIGFLO Goes “Upside Down”

After a long period of time, BIGFLO is finally back together promoting as a group again after The Unit. The group has returned with a mini-album titled Emphas!ze and the catchy “Upside down” is the title song which was released August 18.

The music video starts with an intro to the song and a smooth dance performance by Eunji that catches your attention and draws you in right away. It fades to black before we see Eunji again, walking in an empty place before the music suddenly starts and the other members join.

The song has a catchy beat and it starts off very powerful with Hightop’s rap. The beat is steady but changes in the pre-chorus and surprises when the chorus starts with a completely different turn than expected as it transitions from a powerful beat to a groovy one instead. After the catchy and groovy tones of the chorus, the beat drops back down to offset more rap verses. With a groovy chorus and powerful verses, the song stands out and is unique in its own way—you can almost say they turned the structure of a melody upside down.

Focus in the music video is on performance, and the group delivers a smooth choreography which catches your eye just as quickly as the beat draws you in with the first tone. Towards the end of the video, Eunji has another solo dance performance before they all come back together. We get to hear another rap part and the song ends just as abruptly as it started.

“Upside down” is definitely worth a listen to find something new with the unique sound of the song, as well as the rest of the album. In the other songs on the album, “Your Friend” for example, has a more old-school sound and “P.M.P” has a slower and sexier melody. The whole album is diverse with each song having its unique sound; this makes it easy to at least find one song to add to your playlist.
