Inside the Crime Scene: Tackle Mysteries With the Cast of Busted!

Korean Netflix mystery reality series Busted! is back with a second season. With amateur detectives teaming up to solve a variety of cases presented by different clients, the program showcases an overarching concept relating back to the first season.

Synopsis of Season 1

An enigmatic man who goes by the name of “K” recruits seven celebrities to act as his private team of detectives as they unravel the mystery of the institution of Project D. Played by actor Ahn Naesang, “K” notifies his special group that various chips carrying the DNA of famous detectives have been installed each of the celebrities, prompting them to join operation Project D. The cast, consisting of entertainer Yoo Jaesuk, actor Ahn Jaewook, Koyote’s Kim Jongmin, actor Lee Kwangsoo, actress Park Minyoung, EXO’s Oh Sehun, and gugudan’s Kim Sejeong, sets out on a task to uncover the strange events revolving around the peculiar project and the people involved in it.

Brief Insight Into Season 2

The second season starts off continuing the plotline as “K” guides the cast members along a greater variety of cases. The detectives begin taking up cases not limited to solving the mysteries of Project D. They branch out to investigate conflicts relating to matters such as the identity of an heir to a family inheritance, the identity of a serial killer, returning a family heirloom to its rightful owner, and finding the prime culprit also known as the Flower Killer.

Although appearing as one of the main members in K’s group of detectives, Lee Kwangsoo makes a short yet impactful impression as a guest in this season. He commits an act of betrayal in the first episode, reinforcing his public image that he set through his appearance as a regular member on SBSRunning Man, and works to set up a scenario in which he manages to deceive the rest of his fellow detectives.

To replace Lee Kwangsoo’s absence in the team, K’s team of detectives work to recruit a new member to their circle. Encountering dramatic surprises and unexpected figures along the way, the group accepts singer and actor Lee Seunggi as their last detective.

Each episode in the series highlights a new case, whether it be a murder mystery or a complicated scene of abduction. Despite the heightening tension and suspense throughout the episodes, the detectives’ chemistry with star cameos never fails to shine through both scripted and unscripted portions of the show.

Yoo Jaesuk plays the role of the head detective; taking on the role as the leader, he seems to be most prone to the dangers and risks that appear to threaten the team’s pathway to success. Still, the entertainer’s witty remarks and sharp observations evoke both wonder and amusement in the audience, arousing a sense of admiration after witnessing his dichotomous character.

Kim Jongmin partakes in the process of solving murder mysteries as a talented detective. His image, however, fails to resemble the “genius” nature, as the singer’s thought process often discloses another level of intelligence closer to stupidity. Kim Jongmin’s creativity and imaginative quality, however, allow him to present various perspectives to his team members, occasionally leading the detectives on the right path toward drawing a conclusion to the whole mystery case.

As the oldest member, Ahn Jaewook takes advantage of his experience, applying his knowledge to help his team solve puzzles. Despite facing many obstacles such as presbyopia, which the show emphasizes, the actor’s perseverance in fulfilling his position as a detective encourages his fellow team members to act in the same manner.

Park Minyoung sets a new standard as the “ace” detective among her fellow group mates. Frequently referred to as the most competent and intelligent detective on the team, the actress is the most important figure as everyone looks to her when in need of help to further solve problems. She enthusiastically participates in all aspects of unraveling clues to reach the final answer and does so by utilizing her intelligence, logic, and keen observation.

Sejeong and Sehun, the two youngest members on the team, form the “Se-Se Duo”; their sibling-like chemistry enhances their young, passionate characters. Sehun’s endless determination to achieve something which has initiated his competitive spirit (refer back to the scene involving the Rubix Cube match against the Genius Team in Episode 4) and Sejeong’s diligence in reaching a logical conclusion for essential missions propel them to perform their best for the sake of their clients as well as to protect the excellent reputation of K’s detective squad.

As the newest addition to the team, Lee Seunggi spices up the game show a bit with his energetic spirit as he actively participates in working to solve the mysteries. His sense of humor brings in a fresh vibe to the series as he establishes his character as one who “just lives in the moment,” basically executing risky actions such as lying to his teammates to win an unbelievable amount of money and reinforcing how the world of competition can be cruel.

Together, the seven diverse detectives work together to prove their true worth. Although an unexpected combination of characters, the cast balances each other out, perfectly executing the thrill and entertainment from this original mystery reality show.
