Throwback Thursday: Summer With SEVENTEEN
Ever since their refreshing debut back in 2015, the boys of SEVENTEEN have been synonymous with the sound of summer. When it comes to summer hits, “VERY NICE” still reigns supreme in the minds of most, but SEVENTEEN’s recently released “Left & Right” may be giving their original summer anthem a run for its money. As a celebration of their comeback, this week’s Throwback Thursday takes a look back at some of SEVENTEEN’s best summer jams.
“Healing”
Originally released alongside “VERY NICE” on their repackaged Love&Letter album in 2016, “Healing” is a song about putting aside life’s troubles. It’s an incredibly bright and uplifting track that practically sounds like a day at the beach in musical form and is regarded as a song for the group’s fans. Filmed at various Australian landmarks, the surprise music video for the song shows the boys of SEVENTEEN pursuing their own forms of summer healing—and it’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face too.
“Swimming Fool”
SEVENTEEN’s fourth mini-album Al1 saw them rise to new heights with their passionate title track “Don’t Wanna Cry,” but the group’s performance team brought the high-spirited and playful vibes of summer with their unit song “Swimming Fool.” Amidst bubbly synths and a catchy flute hook, members Hoshi, Jun, The 8, and Dino sing of drowning in a newfound love. Their performance of the song takes it one step further, with the boys mimicking swimming movements in their choreography and even dancing in small pools of water.
“Holiday”
“Holiday” is a B-side on SEVENTEEN’s mini-album YOU MAKE MY DAY that even holds its own against the unabashedly summer energy of title track “Oh My!” To no surprise, “Holiday” is a fun and wholesome track about spending the summer with loved ones. The island beats in the song are enough to have any listener feeling ready for the sun, but the special music video for “Holiday” (directed by Wonwoo!) that shows SEVENTEEN gallivanting around Los Angeles will have you wishing you were a part of the boy group too.
“9-TEEN”
“9-TEEN” is the second OST SEVENTEEN has provided for the A-Teen web drama. Although the track is not necessarily about summer, its beautiful lyrics about youthful love give off the same energy as a vibrant, summer day. There’s a certain summery feeling to the innocence of youth and SEVENTEEN capture that atmosphere flawlessly in this buoyant track about first love.
“Our Dawn is Hotter Than Day”
The closing track on YOU MAKE MY DAY is more relaxed than your average summer K-Pop anthem, but “Our Dawn is Hotter Than Day” perfectly captures the feeling of ending a long summer day. There’s something to be said about the youthful invincibility that comes with those seemingly never-ending summer nights gathered around a bonfire with friends and SEVENTEEN somehow manages to turn those distinct moments into a song.
