We Just Simply Love HyunA’s Tattoos

Tattoos are an art form and a huge part of pop-culture trends, but most importantly they are a unique way of self-expression. Korea still has a long way to go, but generally speaking, the country is not only starting to accept but also understand and appreciate the art of tattoos. Because of their society’s generally more conservative point of view and strict broadcasting guidelines, idols still tend to cover up and hide their tattoos in some cases—or when they don’t, the broadcasting stations tend to blur them out. But thanks mostly to social media, idol tattoos are not at all a well-kept secret.

It is not news to anyone that HyunA has and loves to show off her tattoos, and she sure has some of our favorite idol tattoos with some meaningful and aesthetically-pleasing pieces. Just in case you haven’t discovered them all, we collected them for you down below. We counted 23 little designs, and we can’t wait to get inspired by her new ones if she gets more in the future.

HyunA’s Love For Her Parents

Some tattoos are more about the design than a deep thought behind them, but some of HyunA’s ink are definitely meaningful. It is well-known how much HyunA appreciates her family, and she has one meaningful piece dedicated to each of her parents inked on her body. Her love for her mother is clearly represented in the sentence written on her left shoulder with four little stars: “My mother is the heart that keeps me alive.” While the one for her father—who was born in 1960—is on her left arm saying “60 Dad.”

Text Tattoos

HyunA seems to love writing for her tattoo designs, probably because this can easily be the most straightforward way of expressing something through a tattoo. She has two Latin words on her body that we know of: “Tempus” on her right inner arm, which translates to “time,” and “Fatum” on her lower back, which translates to “fate.” The Hebrew word “אֱמוּנָה” (emunah) on her right shoulder means “faith” or “belief.”

The rest of her lettering tattoos are all in English. Above each elbow we can see “I’M” and “SPECIAL,” while she has “LIKE” and “THAT” written above her wrists. The title of Triple H’s first EP 199X is followed by a smiley on HyunA’s ribs. The word “FUN” inside her arm is in the colors blue, yellow, and red, which are also the colors of Triple H’s logo. She also has the letter “H” on her left hand, the letter “A” on her right ring finger, and the word “LOVE” tattooed on her right thumb.

Lines

Line tattoos are very simple and minimalist, but can also carry deep meanings. Although we don’t know what the soloist’s reason was for getting these, a solid black armband tattoo similar to HyunA’s red thin line around her arm could be a representation of a lost loved one, though some also say it symbolizes strength or luck. But these moderate designs can also simply be for aesthetics. If we look at the thin lines on HyunA’s fingers for example, they make pretty cool permanent accessories.

Drawings

Last but not least, HyunA also has some cute and sophisticated little drawings inked on her body. One of the most iconic and recognizable tattoos of hers is the line of colorful smileys running down her right wrist. The emoji-like faces in red, yellow, green, and blue all show different emotions. Right above this, she has Saturn and some little stars tattooed in black on her wrist. HyunA also has a red heart behind her right ear, a black cross on her left arm, and a red tulip on her left index finger.

We might have missed some more hidden designs, but we are in love with all of HyunA’s tattoos. They are not just cool, but they also represent her persona very well.
