Throwback Thursday: Songs for a Rainy Day
A soothing voice paired with the calming sound of the guitar and lofi beats, this Throwback Thursday will feature songs that are lovely for a rainy day.
“WI ING WI ING” - HYUKOH
This K-Indie group really captures the feeling of a calm yet melancholy rainy day. The tune begins with a slow guitar riff that leads into a bossa nova sound that continues throughout the song. The lead singer, OHHYUK, has a raspy voice that is addictive to listen to, and it blends perfectly into the guitar riffs. The whole music video is backlit with hues of yellow and blue as the woman that we follow throughout avoids her responsibilities, which pairs with the lyrics.
“Photograph” - offonoff
“Photograph” by offonoff brings a wave of nostalgia with every listen. It mainly uses synth and keyboard throughout, really giving it that lofi sound. The song is about wanting to stop time and “remember this moment,” and brings you back to fun moments you may have had with friends or a loved one. The music video takes you on a trip, primarily showing you videos of small moments in day-to-day lives, adding to that feeling of nostalgia while tying into the lyrics that play across the bottom of the video.
“instagram” - DEAN
“instagram '' is overall a quite simple yet sentimental R&B song. The tune focuses on an acoustic guitar and DEAN’s vocals. The riff at the beginning creates the mellow tone that continues throughout the song and fades into the background, allowing DEAN’s vocals to be the center of attention. The emotions and inflections that he uses throughout the song capture that empty feeling one has while scrolling endlessly on social media. The music video is black and white, featuring DEAN in the center of a room as more videos and chaos leaks into the room around him.
“Jasmine” - DPR Live
“Jasmine” is a slow R&B jam that can be listened to for hours. The combination of the smooth beats with DPR Live’s husky voice adds to the warmth of this song, bringing you right into the world that is displayed in the music video. From the colors to the various scenic spots, each shot of this music video is stunning and completely wallpaper worthy.
