Kicking off 2022 on a bright note, quartet AB6IX released their special album COMPLETE WITH YOU. Known for being a “self-producing” group, all the members of AB6IX participated in the production and writing processes for each of the tracks for the album, just as they have with their previous releases. In this five-track album, each track has been credited to at least one of the members with their producer On The Road from BRANDNEW MUSIC. This album shares something special from each member by showcasing each of their individual colors and a message for their dedicated fans and supporters. 

Title track “1, 2, 3” is a playful and energetic pop track that will leave you feeling more upbeat even after one listen. The bright tone is infectious and sure to help lift up spirits on a bad day. The lyrics speak of a sweet and innocent love song—a warm confession dedicated to their fans and their desire to meet again. Overall, the vocals and rap flow together very well in the melody, with Woojin’s verse remaining light and matching the overall tone of the song, which can sometimes be difficult to achieve depending on a rapper’s tone. If you need a pick-me-up, dedicate a few moments to self care and turn on this track.

The video has an interesting contrast between vintage black and white and pastel-colored scenes. As a performance music video, the majority of the focus is on choreography and the members. When the screen splits into four to focus on each member, it’s particularly eye-catching and puts a spotlight on all four of them simultaneously. After the first verse and chorus, bright pastels take center stage as color returns to the video. The outfits bring a soft and innocent air to the scene and add to the overall effect of the video.

If the title genre isn’t to your liking, you’ll find something on the album to fit your taste. The first B-side “VENUS” has a completely different feel, with a slower tempo and more R&B-focused melody, giving the song a more sophisticated and sensual vibe. “CONSOLATION” has more hip-hop melodic elements and is a great follow-up to “VENUS.” While “CRAZY LOVE” has more similarities to title “1, 2, 3,” the album concludes with a simple, piano-focused, slow-tempo ballad in “IN YOUR EYES.” With the musical diversity on this special album, there’s a little something for everyone. 

COMPLETE WITH YOU brings a diverse discography to AB6IX that even a new listener can enjoy. It’s only an added bonus that the album is self-composed and shows the true talents of this group of artists.
