Dive Into WJSN’s Underwater Fantasy with “Sequence”

Following their first place win in the June finale of Mnet’s survival competition show Queendom 2, WJSN continued their triumphant momentum and released a special single album Sequence featuring title track “Last Sequence” on July 5, 2022.

With a series of underwater-inspired visualizers, from concept photos to the official music video, WJSN (also known as Cosmic Girls) took a detour from space to channel their inner mermaids. In iridescent gowns varying in shades of blue and rocking glittery eyeshadows with pearl accessories, the 10 girls of WJSN are nothing less but visions of ethereal siren goddesses.

“Last Sequence” is a pop-style dance track with synth sounds and nu-disco influences. It was co-written by WJSN’s leader EXY with lyrics reflecting the desire for the last moment in time to become permanent: “Always forever, always forever, always forever / This moment to be remembered / You’re my last sequence, last sequence.”

The title track isn’t your typical summer song with an immediate summertime feel like previous release “Boogie Up,” but it is still refreshing in its own chic way. Lead vocalist Seola opens up the song with stunning vocals which lead to a gradual build-up into the main chorus. The impressive camera shots during the choreography scenes in the music video keep up with the snappy and fast rhythm of the song. “Last Sequence” is the perfect fit to follow up their previous OT10 comeback “UNNATURAL,” the start of the group's more mature sound direction.

Three other songs are featured on the single album: “Done,” “Stronger,” and “AURA.” Those who tuned into Queendom 2 might recognize “AURA” as it was the song performed during the show’s finale which ultimately led to their victory. “AURA” is featured on the album as a CD-only song. Another track that was written by the group’s leader is “Done,” a deep house track with a hard-hitting pre chorus. The closing track “Stronger” is a ballad composed and sung by members Dawon and Yeonjung. When it comes to vocals, there’s no denying that WJSN houses some of the best in the industry, and the duet makes for a solemnly sweet ending to the album.
