Jimin: Dance, Debut, Distinctions, and Dior
From middle school dance classes to making history worldwide.
BTS
Park Jimin auditioned at Big Hit Entertainment at 16 years old. He moved into the BTS dorm in May 2012, where all members except for Jin had already been living. Despite being second to last to move in, Jimin was the last member to join the group. Jimin also had the shortest training period among the members, and had no prior training under any other entertainment companies.
On June 13, 2013 Jimin debuted as the lead vocalist and main dancer of BTS. He has released three solo songs that are a part of BTS’s discography: “Lie,” “Serendipity,” and “Filter.” Despite being the most recent release out of the three tracks, “Filter” has a whopping 435.9M streams on Spotify making it the most streamed song out of the three. And, one of the top songs on BTS’s MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 album.
Jimin was appointed as Dior’s global brand ambassador in January 2023, making him the first Asian man to represent the brand.
Two months later, he was revealed to be a global ambassador of the luxury jewelry house Tiffany & Co. where he is known for embodying the elegance and style of the brand.
Dancing
After becoming interested in dance in middle school, Jimin joined Just Dance Academy where he learned popping and locking. The Busan born star later went on to attend Busan High School of Arts where he studied contemporary dance. As a top student in the modern dance department, he was urged by a teacher to audition at an entertainment company. After being accepted into Big Hit Entertainment, Jimin transferred to Korean Arts High School in Seoul where he graduated in 2014.
Jimin is known for his fluid dance moves and attention to detail. No matter the style or genre, there is power in his movements, and expressions. He is considered to have mastered the ability to portray emotions through his dancing, embodying the story of whatever song he's dancing to.
Solo
Jimin made his solo debut on March 17, 2023 with the EP FACE. The six-track album debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200, the highest a South Korean artist has ever charted in Billboard history.
Jimin became a Platinum and Million seller with 1,021,532 copies of FACE being sold on the first day alone. This additionally made Jimin the first solo artist to surpass one million day-of-release sales in HanteoChart history. The album peaked at No.1-10 on over a dozen weekly charts worldwide in countries including: Japan, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, France, and Canada. Jimin won seven year-end awards such as: AsianPopMusicAwards’ “Top 20 Albums of the Year (Overseas),” MAMAAwards’ “Best Male Artist,” and HanteoMusicAwards’ “Artist of the Year.” On May 22, 2023 Jimin was declared the “Fastest solo K-pop artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify (male)” by Guinness World Records, a title which was previously held by his groupmate Jungkook.
