Mermaid Vibes

If mermaids are your favorite mythical or aquatic creature and you also love listening to K-Pop music, then this may be the article for you. Below are B-side tracks that carry a mermaid vibe either through the song’s title or the song’s lyrics. So have a read-through and immerse yourself in each track's mythical, water vibes.

“Mermaid”- ONEUS

In their eighth mini-album MALUS, ONEUS deliver nostalgic R&B vibes with the mini-album’s fifth track “Mermaid.” Against a retro R&B-pop backtrack, ONEUS sing about falling in love with someone who stands out from others, calling them their “mermaid.” The song ignites groove and feel-good energy with strong singing and rap vocals from the members, and an addictive sound that you can’t help but dance along to.

“Waterfall”- MINHO, LIM KIM

SHINee member MINHO flaunts his smooth, effortless vocals in “Waterfall,” the fourth track from his solo debut mini-album CHASE. A sensual, slow, R&B track “Waterfall” brings MINHO’s vocals to the forefront, delivering a side of him that many (at the time of the mini-album’s release) may not have heard before. In collaboration with LIM KIM, and produced by Cha Cha Malone, the vocal blend between his and LIM KIM’s distinctive vocals, against the song’s smooth trap production, creates a soothing listening experience that feels warm and comforting, as the two vocalists sing of falling in love.

“Aquamarine”- Lee Chaeyeon

From her debut EP Hush Rush, Korean soloist Lee Chaeyeon sings of dreams and swimming freely in the EP’s third track “Aquamarine.” This song emits a laidback, summer feel with its fusion of retro-pop mixed with an intricate heavy bass, having you move along to the beat from the very first second. Chaeyeon approaches the song with soft, delicate vocals that pull you into the track as do the “ah-ah” ad-libs in the post-chorus that feel like a sweet, mermaid calling.

“Underwater Love (심해 (마음이라는 바다))”- OH MY GIRL

OH MY GIRL delivers dreamy, elegant sounds in “Underwater Love,” the seventh track from their 2019 EP THE FIFTH SEASON. The girls' sweet, delicate vocals coast along the track’s mystical instrumentation that incorporates magical twinkling sounds into the instrument and beat-fused sound. With this, the song carries a nostalgic K-Pop vibe reminiscent of the songs of early K-Pop generations that listeners can fall in love with when listening to “Underwater Love.”
