Curl up This Winter with These Warm and Cozy Tracks
The frigid cold is in full swing, and the official first day of winter is just around the corner! On days with such freezing temperatures, nothing feels better than getting home and curling up by the fire with a warm cup of tea or coffee and some sweet and mellow tracks. While many associate K-Pop with crazy colors and intense melodies, there are definitely some tracks perfect for curling up by the fire!
“Hello Tutorial” - Zion.T featuring Seulgi
Zion.T’s latest album release brought the best of the comforting, crooning R&B singer. “Hello Tutorial” has a delicate trait to its melody that evokes a feeling of warmth and innocence, instilling a lovely sense of comfort. The second verse features Red Velvet’s Seulgi, whose honey vocals perfectly complement Zion.T’s higher-pitched voice, bringing a vocal color that only adds to the overall warmth of the track. Zion.T is already perfect for the winter, but add in Seulgi’s vocals and you’ve got the perfect pair!
“Soulmate” - ZICO featuring IU
Speaking of perfect soulful partners, ZICO and IU present an impeccable collaboration track with “Soulmate,” whose production includes a flawless melding of vocal colors. The warm fuzzies are bound to make their way into your heart, especially with the melodic line that features a muted jazz trumpet, which is an element we almost never hear in these Korean releases. ZICO’s rap may sometimes come off as a little rough for the overall feel of the track, but there is still no doubt that IU’s amazing talent and ZICO’s musical versatility make for a soft and lovely evening track.
“Home” - JBJ95
Throughout the exhausting year and many exhausting months, weeks, and days, we often find ourselves yearning for the comforts of home. No song properly expresses this longing like JBJ95’s debut track “Home.” And while the melody is less subdued, the sentiment behind the song lends itself to a heavy wave of nostalgia for home, a beautiful, yet simultaneously melancholic wish we all hope to satisfy. If you’ve already found that home, then the meaning of the song is bound to take root in your heart, leaving you with a strong sense of warmth. Not to mention this feeling is intensified by Kenta’s beautiful vocal timbre.
“See the Light” - GOT7
In the past, GOT7 has had difficulty proving their talent both in rap and vocals to skeptics, though we think there is hardly anything worth criticizing in “See the Light.” With members Mark and Yugyeom taking part in the production of this track, the group proved they were capable of adding softness and warmth to their musical repertoire. While there is plenty to say about the lovely vocals, the soft rap verses are really what make this song stand out. The thoughtful confession in the song is sure to leave you with goosebumps too!
“Hand” - Lay of EXO
Lay of EXO proved his talents as a versatile vocalist with the release of Sheep, an album with many different contrasting melodies. “Hand” is a track that tells of fading love, and while that is a rather downcast topic, it’s hard disagreeing with the fact that the melancholic melody is incredibly soothing. The theme of longing coupled with a tranquil R&B melody makes for a soothing song after a hazy, difficult day.
