HEIZE Kicks off Winter with “First Sight”
Undoubtedly the queen of groovy, HEIZE returns with her new digital single “First Sight,” a bright, jazzy release laden with melancholic lyrics perfectly suited for the winter months ahead.
Released on December 14, the song laments over falling in love at the first snowfall, with the singer wondering if her newfound love can carry on into spring. Musically, the track is everything you’d expect from HEIZE: it’s got a funky beat layered with jazzy synth and electric drums. Perhaps the highlight of the song is the syncopated piano breakdown towards the end that really shows off HEIZE’s flair for theatrics in her music. Pair the instrumentation with the singer’s distinctive lilting voice, and you have a track that’s hard not to enjoy.
The video for the release only adds to the appeal, with HEIZE calling upon her well-known love of Disney’s Olaf in a Frozen-esque winter wonderland visual experience. She wears bright red throughout the video, a stark contrast to the falling snow around her as she sings of her new winter love. In addition to her wardrobe full of capes and tiaras, the video gives off fairytale vibes with the ending of the video featuring HEIZE frozen in a deep sleep under thick layers of ice as her lover looks on forlornly.
HEIZE offers a sound not often found in today’s industry that’s always somehow equal parts old-fashioned and refreshing. “First Sight” is the perfect addition to her already impressive repertoire and sure to be a great listen for the months to come, even when the snow melts away into spring.
