NU’EST W is Back with “Deja Vu”
Finally, after eight months, NU’EST W is back! They are still promoting as four members until Minhyun comes back from his Wanna One promotions. Who, You is their second mini-album and Jonghyun has taken a major role in writing the lyrics for all of their songs on the album.
Their title song, “Deja Vu,” is a sad song about reminiscing about a past relationship that still hurts them to this day. “Deja Vu” really shows each member’s vocal and dance skills compared to their past albums and songs. Jonghyun’s rap is my favorite part of the song because of his deep voice and the meaningful lyrics. The song has a catchy beat and rhythm that is easy to follow and for listeners to enjoy. The music video for “Deja Vu” gives off a mysterious vibe that confuses the audience but also shows each member’s charismatic and chic image.
The first song on the album is “Signal” which is about wanting someone so you send them a signal to show your love. “Signal” starts with a slow beat to lure listeners into the song, then a catchy, strong beat begins when they start singing the chorus. “북극성 (Polaris)” is one of my favorite songs on the album because it has a prominent piano in the background that soothes listeners as they listen to it. This song reminds me of a sad love song that you would listen to as you look outside the window and think about the happy memories that you miss.
“ylenoL” is a song about confessing your love to someone. The lyrics represent having a conversation with your crush. The song has a super catchy beat that shows Baekho and Aron’s vocal skills with those high notes. “중력달 (Gravity & Moon)” has a more hip-hop feel to the song where Aron, Jonghyun, and Ren get to show off their rap skills. Once I played this song, I immediately started dancing to it because their vocals and the song go perfectly together. Lastly, “Shadow” has an EDM vibe in which the lyrics talk about staying with the person you love forever. This song has a party atmosphere because of its loud beat, strong vocals from Baekho, and soft vocals from Ren.
NU’EST W’s second mini-album is indeed a hit with their strong vocals and dance skills. Through Produce 101, they have gained an immense amount of fans who support them for their talent. Their true talents have also come out from the variety show, and their albums continuously get better each time.
