FTISLAND’s Return in “Summer Night’s Dream”

The K-Rock band FTISLAND has returned with a fun, bright music video to an upbeat summer song from their 6th mini-album titled What If.

We usually only hear Hongki’s voice in FTISLAND’s songs, but this time around we get to hear more of Jaejin’s vocals and Seunghyun’s rapping as well, in both the title track and other songs on the album.

Title track “Summer Night’s Dream” is a love song with an upbeat melody. The songs starts slow with an acoustic guitar and then slowly adds bass and drums. Hongki starts singing, and after a couple of lines, Jaejin comes in before Seunghyun’s first rap. Right after the first chorus there is a breakdown and Seunghyun starts rapping again. When the chorus starts, you can’t help but to dance along to the catchy melody.

The music video to “Summer Night’s Dream” is fun and humorous. The first clip of the music video gives us a taste of what the song will be like, playing a part of the chorus. In the next clip we see Hongki dressed up as a rabbit, handing out leaflets to people before a girl shows up next to him, also in costume. She runs away and while doing so, she drops something on the ground which Hongki picks up, and we are then taken to the next scene with a door opening to a room with all the band members. Throughout the music video we are shown what’s in Hongki’s dreams and what he imagines in his head.

“Dance With U” is the second track on the album, and it has a groovy beat with a catchy melody; a song that is more bass-heavy than a lot of other songs on the album. The third song on the album is titled “Nowhere” and the song is chill with a build up towards the chorus, growing to become more grand during the chorus and adding string instruments into the mix. “Fade Out” is the fourth track and it brings a heavier rock sound with it. Heavier use of guitar and drums together with Hongki’s powerful high notes, AOA’s Yuna is featured on this track. “Who I Am” is the only ballad song on the album and the main instrument is the piano that goes well together with the drums. Something worth mentioning about this song is the powerful bridge that changes up the melody. The last song on the album is the Korean version of “Paradise.”

With a group that has been around for 11 years, we already know that they won’t disappoint in their releases, and this is no exception.
