Band of the Week: Drug Restaurant
Welcome back to another Band of the Week. This week we are featuring Drug Restaurant, an indie band rumored to be making a comeback at the end of August! Formed in 2014 under the Jung Joon Young Band, they later rebranded to Drug Restaurant in 2015 to focus on all the members instead of just Jung Joonyoung. With talented veteran musicians such as Dammit (guitarist), Drok Q (drummer), and Jung Seokwon (bassist), the band quickly found their sound. After changing labels and joining REALIVE, their popularity seemingly skyrocketed.
In 2016 they made a dynamic comeback with “Mistake,” which gave rise to their popularity. The song explored what it meant to ask for forgiveness, explaining that everyone can make mistakes and that one shouldn’t be punished too harshly for them. The song put them on the map as a band as well as on the charts.
A year later, they released their first English album Pomade which bridged them to both American and European audiences alike. Their title song “Drink O2 In The Water” was a ‘90s garage-band-sounding track with a tinge of beach bum flare.
On January 1 of this year they made their Korean comeback with “Her.” “Her” summed up the band’s feelings regarding their first European tour, and the music video features footage from the events. A melodic rock ballad, it set Drug Restaurant back on the charts and gave fans a nostalgic feeling of their tour. Slightly romantic and slightly sad, the ballad allowed them to showcase a more emotional side in contrast to the hard rock their fans know them by.
It was recently announced that Drug Restaurant will be taking part in an American tour with BJR as their opening act. The cities they’ll be hitting are New York, Chicago, Dallas, and San Juan, making it their first ever American tour. They’ll also be completing another European tour right before hitting the States. Their American tour will start in October following their European leg in September. The tour will also include fansign events for those wishing to participate.
Be sure to catch their newest comeback at the end of the month, and don’t forget to grab tickets to their American tour. To check out more clues about their newest comeback, go to Drug Restaurant’s Facebook page to piece together their concept.
