Deuces Up in Jay Park’s “V”

Mondays can be grim, but with the release of Jay Park’s two track album V, the whole week suddenly became a party. Recently performing at the Made In America Festival in Philadelphia, Jay continues to gain new fans, especially after signing with Roc Nation gave him access to a larger audience. With a knack for blending many genres of music to produce a unique R&B/hip-hop sound, Jay Park brings a little bit of everything to please fans all around the world, especially those who fell in love with him through his cameo appearance in Charli XCX’s music video for “Boys” back in 2017.

Despite only being two tracks long, Jay’s album V includes a little something for all fans to enjoy. The first track, “Dank,” starts off with the soft fingerpicking tune of an acoustic guitar before getting lost in Jay’s voice. Produced by Jay Park himself and Thurxday, a producer under H1GHR MUSIC and someone who has produced many tracks for artists such as pH-1, the song is “hotter than Sriracha.” Fully in English, the lyrics have us kicking back while Jay’s clear rap contrasts with the acoustic guitar as he celebrates his success, shakes off his haters, and tips his figurative hat at H1GHR MUSIC and AOMG.

Sharing the same name as the album title, “V” features a phone tone backing track before throwing up deuces. The feature track was produced alongside Triza and Diego Ave, both of whom have produced for artist such as Chris Brown and Rico Love along with many others. Throughout the music video, Jay snaps selfies while featuring a play on words as he continues his “body talk” with his “rapping sign language.” Besides admiring the “bootifulest” girls in his music video, be sure to take notice of the tongue-in-cheek social commentary exploring the idea that regardless of country or language, all people should be welcomed everywhere—clearly a playful jab at Trump.
