Throwback Thursday: Best R&B Collabs
The Korean R&B scene is comprised of some of the most dynamic and talented musicians in the industry. Filled with earworms, ballads, and endless unique voices and styles, it’s hard not to find an artist to like. But what happens when greatness meets greatness, producing some of the best collaborations? Find out below in this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday: Best R&B Collabs!
“BONGJESEON” - Dynamic Duo feat. SURAN
Released in early 2018, Dynamic Duo’s “BONGJESEON” is a forlorn song about love gone awry. As relaxing as it is sad, the track features minimal instrumentation in favor of letting the vocals take front and center. Better yet is R&B songstress SURAN in the second verse; her soft and distinct voice perfectly complements those of Choiza and Gaeko.
“247” - Junggigo feat. Zion.T, Crush, DEAN
In 2015 Junggigo blessed us with what might be considered the holy grail of collaborations. Featuring not one, not two, but three R&B kings in addition to his own signature crooning voice, this collab with Zion.T, Crush, and DEAN seems almost too good to be true. While each of their voices brings a different color to the track, the one thing they all have in common is pure soul in this song of surviving the monotony of everyday life.
“Your Dog Loves You” - Colde feat. Crush
In what might quite possibly be the most heartwarming song ever released, Colde brings us “Your Dog Loves You,” another collab featuring Crush. With only a subdued guitar to accompany Colde and Crush’s gentle harmonies, this song is guaranteed to put you at ease. If that doesn’t do the trick, take a peek at the lyrics. Still not smiling? “Shut Up & Groove” - HEIZE feat. DEAN
A match made in K-R&B heaven, 2016’s “Shut Up & Groove” features HEIZE and DEAN paired together for a groovy track about living life to the fullest and not letting the little things get to you. With each having a similar vintage touch to their musical styles, these artists suit each other perfectly; it seemed like fate that they would eventually come together for a collab (and thank goodness they did again a month later with “And July”). Fit together with a track that’s hard not to dance to, HEIZE and DEAN offer the perfect, quirky song that will have you forgetting your worries in no time and instead wondering how two artists could so flawlessly fit together and wishing they’d do it more often.
