Take a Look Behind the Scenes of Celebrity Life in I Live Alone

On coming of age, many people start a new life. Learning to become independent, it’s pretty common to see young adults living alone in different parts of the world. With the official mascot Wilson representing the program, MBC’s I Live Alone is continuously ranked as one of the most popular shows in Korea. The reality show features celebrities of diverse occupations who live alone, displaying each of their unique natural lifestyles in detail. Because the program highlights the casual and easygoing characters of each individual, the program provides comfort by allowing the audience, especially those who are living independently, to establish a connection with the public figures on the show.

Quick Intro to the Show

The program is formatted in which the cast members react and make commentary while watching a video that contains the day in the life of a certain member. Focusing on the duality of the fancy celebrity life and normal person life, I Live Alone makes it possible to compare and contrast the cast’s charming personalities, providing an opportunity for the viewers to find the attractiveness of the stars even in their truest forms.

Through I Live Alone, numerous celebrities have been acknowledged by the public for their distinctive individuality. Shaping their image to fans by showcasing their true nature through the reality program, many rising stars have been promoting their names with their appearances in past episodes and creating iconic titles for themselves.

Do You Live Alone Too?

Take a look at MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, for example. With her first appearance as a temporary guest for the show, the K-Pop idol vocalist soon peaked the trending section on Naver with her amazing mukbang skills. Eating gopchang, or cow intestines, she immediately attracted viewers’ attention, trending her own name as well as the menu. Her impactful first impression through the show was enough to get her on the main cast, and Hwasa is fulfilling her role with humane trait behind her powerful stage presence as part of a strong vocalist group.

The main host Park Narae overachieves in her task of maintaining a dynamic flow to the progression of the program’s episode; her witty remarks definitely keep the audience entertained and play a role in calling attention to the scene in the video. Her ability to connect with the guests and even the audience proves to be extremely important as Park Narae brings the mood up when needed, but also carries out her way of comfort for others in scenes that reveal a sad or heartbreaking moment.

Actor Sunghoon is obviously one of the most prominent members of the show, despite joining the crew rather late. Showing off his professional swimming skills and modeling techniques, the show revealed the star constantly embracing an overly relaxed attitude which eventually led him to join the “idiots” line, or become the so-called “new idiot” (뉴얼 - pronounced new-eol). Eating kiwi without peeling the skin of the fruit, pouring milk into the plastic bag straight from the cereal box that contains cereal, and exhibiting his simplemindedness from time to time, the actor’s image made a 180 degree turn from a charismatic actor to a gentle and comfortable acquaintance.

Webtoon artist Kian84, most known for his webtoon Fashion King, is also taking part in the show as one of the permanent members. Part of the “idiots” line with his fellow brothers as 2얼 (second idiot - pronounced ee-eol), he tends to act spontaneously, and his unexpected actions always surprises the viewers as he brings his peculiar character into the scene. Although his unique and impulsive character has brought about criticism several times against his remarks and actions that many deemed unthoughtful, the artist seems to act with more caution, and his presence in the show still remains significant as he adds onto the simplemindedness of his fellow “얼” brothers.

Now, now, we can’t forget about the leader of the “idiots,” or Lee Sieon. Making an impactful impression on the audience with his dynamic roles in movies and dramas, with Abyss being his most recent work, the actor never fails to hype up the mood with his blunt, yet hilarious personality. He is rarely associated in a negative aspect despite his rather strong word choice, and his sarcastic yet generous nature merge to create the tough yet soft character unique to Lee Sieon.

The last and final member of the “idiots” is Henry. A well-rounded individual currently performing as an active actor as well as a singer, I Live Alone was the show that revealed the sweet nature of the celebrity to a broader audience aside from fans. He was able to showcase his mind-blowing musical talent as well as his simplicity, just like Sunghoon. Although Henry’s personal schedules make it difficult for him to film every week of the show, it is still important to recognize that the crew considers him as a part of the family.

Overall, the tight-knit relationship of the I Live Alone cast members encourage the audience to treat the featured celebrities comfortably, but with respect. The reality show definitely invites the viewers to judge stars with more open-mindedly and isn’t afraid to highlight the special moments in each individual’s day. Make sure to tune into I Live Alone every Friday on MBC if you haven’t already and check out to see if any celebrity’s behind the scenes video seems to resemble yourself in everyday life!
