B-Sides: SF9 Anniversary Special

While planning for this week’s B-sides playlist suggestions, the clock struck 12 a.m. on October 5 in Korea, marking the third anniversary of SF9. It is indeed the perfect time to recall and re-experience the act’s collection. Choosing four tracks from their numerous EPs was the hardest decision of all, but in the end I managed to pull together some chill pieces that can connect and comfort any listener.

“Together”

Every Fantasy would agree that this particular track from their first single album FEELING SENSATION holds a special place in their hearts. “Together,” being a bright, peppy love song, reveals the innocence and sweetness of love. The lyrics sing “Let’s get back together,” with the boys asking their lady to go back to being a lovely couple again. With slender vocals and crispy rap parts, the retro-pop track becomes a beautiful listen, especially emphasizing on the members’ vocal skills.

“Dear Fantasy”

Another high-spirited track in our list is “Dear Fantasy” from their 4th mini album, MAMA MIA. With gentle guitar strings, drum beats, and trumpets, the track is the perfect piece to celebrate an occasion. By addressing their loved ones as lovely, darling, and angel, the members melt every Fantasy’s heart. The mellow and flattering lyrics “You are my only one” pop up during chorus parts and engage the listeners by making them feel special.

“See U Tomorrow”

The nine members are not just romantic lovers, but are also our healers when we need them. The track “See U Tomorrow” from their latest mini album RPM brings life and breathes hope during the listen. The lyrics along with the passionate guitar riffs keep us with the mood. The emotions of the song are poured out with such lines as: “Everything is alright even if you fall again and go a little slowly. Don’t worry even if you get hurt and go back a little,” followed by the build-up by the rappers and climatic ending by the vocalists.

“Life Is So Beautiful”

The last track of the list is “Life Is So Beautiful” from the act’s 6th mini album, NARCISSUS. The pop track is another song on relationships, where the members confess that “Life is so beautiful when I’m drunk on you,” singing about the brighter side of being in love. By following the usual style of the group with guitars and electronic instruments, the track manages to be one of the catchy and more favored listens in the album.

Adding to the list are much more of SF9’s B-side tracks that need to be appreciated. And that is why I will be continuing this edition with part two soon. Stay tuned!
