Stray Kids Fly High in “Astronaut”

After a major reshuffle of Stray Kids’s schedule, fans were unsure if their previously teased song would still be released; however, following on the heels of their first OST, Stray Kids delighted fans with the refreshing “Astronaut.”

“Astronaut” greets fans with a much needed lighter sound following the intensity of “Side Effects” and “Double Knot.” The song starts with a simple piano melody underneath I.N.’s refreshing vocals. The same tone continues through song, layered throughout with different forms of percussion ranging from simple hand claps all the way to drum beats and electronically layered tones. Like many of Stray Kids’s songs, the track includes an easy-to-sing chorus (“like an astronaut”). The overall vibe of the song will have the listener bouncing their head along from beginning to end.

The video itself has many layers, revisiting familiar images from previous albums, like the merry-go-round from the “I am You” video, the two moons from “Side Effects,” the glitches from “Miroh,” and even the rooftop from “Young Wings.” The overall coloring is dark and muted until the members find themselves dressed in all white on a roof under a deep blue sky. The main portion of the music video concludes with the word “astronaut” set against a blue and white background. However, the video has about 20 more seconds that feature I.N. walking into the set of the “I am You” music video (the set with the merry-go-round surrounded by lights to illuminate the dark scene). In the background of the scene, however, two moons are visible as I.N. sits on the edge of the merry-go-round deep in thought. The returning imagery has Stays going crazy with theories as they try to find the link between all of the music videos.

Unfortunately, the only place you can currently listen to “Astronaut” is YouTube, so make sure to check out “Astronaut” below!
