B-Sides: Yugyeom Birthday Special

With numerous idols celebrating this week, one of the cherished members of GOT7, Yugyeom, also turned 22 on November 17th. The well-known maknae is credited for his splendid dance moves and style, but also has a hand in co-writing and composing beautiful B-sides for the fans. To celebrate his birthday, let me suggest a few of his contributions.

“Don’t Care”

The first track “Don’t Care” is an R&B song from GOT7’s mini album, FLIGHT LOG: ARRIVAL. With a hypnotizing tune and mild beats, the song could make every listener feel at ease. Accompanying the rhythmic music, the high-pitching chorus attempts to hook its audience as members gracefully showcase their soothing vocals throughout the song. The mellow track co-written by Yugyeom sings, “I’ll come back to you again and again. I can’t forget you,” reflecting on a bitter-sweet relationship. Despite the low mood of the lyrics, the song is highly pleasing and will sound perfect while relaxing.

“Fine”

GOT7 members had an opportunity to showcase their unique style by contributing a solo track on their album, Present: You; Yugyeom’s “Fine” becomes the sensual track among the seven. With an eccentric style delivered throughout the song, the R&B track explores a unique music pattern and rhythm drops. As a full-fledged solo artist, Yugyeom gets scores huge by experimenting with different vocal modulations. The piece captivates the audience as it sounds more interesting with a little blend of instruments and the mystic aura it emits. As for the lyrics, the lines sound confident and bold, convincing any listener to fall in love.

“1°”

One of Yugyeom’s latest works of this year would be “1°” from their mini-album SPINNING TOP: Between Security & Insecurity. With finger snaps and dominant instrumentals, the song turns out to be a heavy electro-instrumental track. In addition to the effective chorus parts by Youngjae and JB, the whole song sounds more refined and intact as members enchant the listeners with their matured vocal techniques. The lyrics of the song develop a deeper meaning, with lines singing about dealing with inner conflicts and insecurity as life moves on. Above all, the track is addictive enough to impress the listeners in the first listen.

“Wolo”

“WOLO” is one of the most hyped songs among IGOT7s from day one of being performed in the concert stage. The EDM track finally had its studio version in their album, Present: You & Me. As a powerful response to the haters, Jackson, Bambam and Yugyeom come together as a trio to blast the beat with confidence. The track has a strong influence on massive instrumentals that makes it sound more pompous with headphones. With “We only live once,” as the motto of the track, the entire song is a treat with various hooks and a catchy chorus to sing along.

On behalf of the team, I wish Yugyeom a happy birthday. Let’s make more wonderful memories together in the future.
