ASTRO Heats Things Up With BLUE FLAME
With each comeback, it seems as though ASTRO has only gotten hotter and hotter and their new EP BLUE FLAME, released on November 20, may be the hottest of all. Led by title track “Blue Flame,” the boy group stuns once again, this time with an even sexier edge.
“Blue Flame” picks up where last winter’s “All Night” left off, but with a lot more allure. The song is about being drawn to a painful love like a moth to a flame. With the slightest Moombahton feel in its rhythms, “Blue Flame” is the perfect song for one of K-Pop’s most impressive dance groups to show off their talents. The music video is a retake on the classic “Beauty and the Beast” tale that’s otherwise simple in its composition, instead letting ASTRO’s choreography speak for itself.
“Go&Stop” has a similar tropical feel to it with the smattering of synth steel drum sounds throughout the song. “All About You” kicks up the bass and synth, sounding like a modernized version of a 90’s dance track. “When The Wind Blows” is another 90s fusion song: the piano chord progressions in the verses are very 90’s pop-esque, as is the synth-led chorus, but the song still has a contemporary touch to it, particularly in JinJin’s rap. The album concludes with the emotive “You’re my world,” an electro-ballad that puts the group’s—and MJ’s high notes—hearts front and center.
BLUE FLAME is a solid release from ASTRO, and also the most logical step after January’s All Light. ASTRO can tackle a sexy concept like no one’s business (looking at you, Moonbin), so it’s no surprise this comeback is a good one. After all, blue flames are the hottest of all.
