MONSTA X Is Set to “Follow” in Their New Music Video
MONSTA X is back with their newest mini-album Follow-Find You. The album currently has two music videos: “Find You,” which was released first to create hype for the new album, and “Follow.”
Right from the start it is easy to hear the Middle Eastern influence in “Follow.” The first few words of the song turned out to be the chorus of the entire track. There are only a few key things to note about this track, the first being the contrast between the verses and the chorus. The melody between the parts is the same—the only difference being the added sound of a brass instrument. Another interesting part of the song is the contrast between Jooheon’s and I.M.’s raps. Jooheon’s verse is definitely different from what we’re used to hearing; he plays with staccato words and drawn out syllables making it an interesting listen. I.M. on the other hand seems to blend Jooheon’s usual style with his own, giving us a smooth ride with punchy lines. The chorus of the song is very simple, drawing out the word “follow,” making it an easy one for international fans to sing along to.
The video, on the other hand, brings back the familiar motif of a clock. It’s seen in several of the scenes as the backdrop and on the floor of the set. In some scenes, the members are used to symbolize the hands of the clock. The video’s color scheme is centered around red and blues with hints of gold. They also play with light and dark, utilizing shadows and light beams to add heavy contrast to the scenes. Like most MONSTA X videos, the choreography prominently featured.
Overall, this MONSTA X track may take a few more listens to get stuck in your head, but when it does, you’ll be humming it for days to come.
