CL Makes Her Long-Awaited Return with In The Name Of Love 1
Former (and forever) leader of 2NE1 gone solo, CL has made her long-awaited return to the Korean music industry after three years. Not long after parting ways with her former label, YG Entertainment, CL is back and better than ever. As part of her upcoming album, In The Name Of Love, the soloist released the first installment of the album, offering fans two brand new songs to enjoy. Along with the release of the two tracks comes their respective music videos, which have their own style and meaning. Both songs are heavily R&B influenced, much more delicate and softer compared to her first solo releases.
The first track, “+DONE161201+,” is a breakup song (whether it be a romantic or platonic relationship) that will resonate with many. It’s all about moving on from the people who only cause pain and suffering. No longer will any foolishness be tolerated and CL is done and over it. The song is a strong statement of not looking back at this type of people and situations. It has a great message of saying it’s okay to be done with things and to no longer linger around those who only cause negativity in life. The music video for “+DONE161201+” takes on the form of an Instagram story, with clips of fans as well as close friends and family of CL singing along to the lyrics of the song. Some familiar faces include her 2NE1 members, Dara, Park Bom, and Minzy, along with Taeyang and Lee Hi. It’s very endearing to see CL incorporate those who matter the most to her within the music video, and despite all the adversity that she has come across during her hiatus, there are those who have stood beside her and continue to support her.
The second track on In The Name Of Love is “+REWIND170205+” which is another R&B/pop track that is all about reflecting on the past and seeing how much growth has occurred, as well as wanting to start all over again–which is fitting as CL starts a new chapter of her life. Sometimes, we look back at things we have done in the past and wish we could go back and do things differently–this song is the perfect soundtrack to that feeling. In a way, after finally making her return after such a long time, it is a new start for her again. To coincide with the song, the music video features personal photos of CL throughout her career as a young trainee up to the present day as a solo artist navigating her way through the industry. But perhaps the most touching and bittersweet part of the music video is seeing past photos of 2NE1 together from their early years as a group.
