Throwback Thursday: Rainy Day Acoustics

With the warmer days of Spring come some of the dreariest days of the year, but there’s no better weather to break out a cup of tea and a soft playlist! Remedy your gloomy days with some of these acoustic tracks perfectly fit for a rainy afternoon.

“10월의 날씨 (October rain)” - 10cm

Honestly speaking, the entirety of indie duo 10cm’s discography is fit for rain, but their 2015 “10월의 날씨 (October rain)” has to come out on top. The track is soft and slow and sad, with its simple acoustics and Kwon Jungyeol’s desperate lyrics of waiting for sun after days filled with rain.

“Umbrella” - Epik High feat. Younha

Epik High’s “Umbrella” uses the imagery of an umbrella being too small for two people, representing a failing relationship. Off their album Pieces, Part One from 2008 and featuring Younha, this track is another of Epik High’s that shows them at their lyrical best. Though less acoustic than the other tracks on this list, it’s hard to picture listening to this song any other time than a dreary, rainy day.

“청춘연가 (Green Nocturne)” - NELL

Towards the end of 2014, indie group NELL released their single “청춘연가 (Green Nocturne),” a melancholy track saturated with nostalgia for a failed love. The song isn’t necessarily sad nor hopeful, and instead lies somewhere in between, with a certain kind of apathy that lingers over rainy afternoons like gray clouds.

“EVERYTHING” - The Black Skirts

2016 brought us The Black Skirts’s “EVERYTHING,” a simple, psychedelic love song about finding the person who brings out the best in life’s smallest moments. The lyrics are easy and slow, letting the dreamy feel of the song take front and center. It’s a track that sounds like pure, relaxed happiness—the kind of comfort that only true love or a quiet rainy day could bring.
