KNK Returns with Powerful “Sunset”

KNK has made their surprisingly powerful return with the unexpected “Sunset,” an EDM/house-driven track that differs greatly from previous releases. Following the early 2019 track “Lonely Night,” KNK has returned with “Sunset” to command your attention and prove their talents. 

The Title: “Sunset”

Having followed KNK since their debut, it’s not an overstatement to say that “Sunset” caught us completely off guard the minute the song started. KNK has not spent much time, if any, exploring the EDM genre, so loyal fans of the group are sure to be surprised by what they’ve got in store this comeback. 

The track itself is a huge surprise, but in a good way. KNK somehow manages to maintain its group sound even with the switch in genre, drawing listeners in for more. The driving beat keeps the audience’s attention, and the repetition of a certain phrase first used in the beginning of the song makes for an addictive addition. The group members still manage to showcase their strong vocals and rapping skills amidst this overpowering beat, making “Sunset” the whole musical package. 

Let’s not forget the visual aspects, though. Dark concepts definitely fit this group better than anything, and we see a continuation of that with “Sunset.” The dimly lit choreography shots and bursts of neon color emphasize the intensity of the track, adding an element that makes for a perfect mix of melodic and visual stimulation. Of course, we can’t forget the dancing, or the shirtless Heejun that makes an appearance about two-thirds of the way through the video. KNK definitely did not come to play with this comeback.

The Album

The title is accompanied by a single album release, KNK S/S COLLECTION. The album contains three tracks consisting of the title and two B-sides. The intense pace of “Sunset” is offset by the first B-side, “WE ARE THE ONE.” This track has a much more traditional pop influence, with a usual buildup and drop that many are already familiar with. The musical elements are reminiscent of AB6IX’s “Breathe.”

The final track on the album is “바랬어 FADE,” a much more R&B-influenced rhythm that makes for somewhat of a sensual sound. It’s immediately addictive unlike its previous B-side counterpart, showcasing a more mature and passionate side of the group. All in all, “Sunset” and “바랬어 FADE” definitely carry the album and successfully showcase the capability of the KNK members as true artists. It there was any time to stop sleeping on talent, it would be now.
