Guide to Choosing the Perfect Lip Product

Everyone is constantly on the search for the perfect lip product, but the sheer amount of products on the market definitely overwhelms most. From lip balms to tints and glossy to matte textures, it’s definitely hard to choose the right one! But we’ve got some tips on how to choose the correct lip product based on your own lip concerns.

Moisture

When searching for a lipstick that mainly provides moisture for chapped lips, the options include a tinted lip balm or even a lip gloss. Those products are able to provide some natural color while keeping lips plump and moisturized throughout the day. If those don’t provide enough color to your lips, there are also moisturizing lipsticks to choose from such as Etude House’s Dear My Blooming Lips Talk Lipstick and Laneige’s Famous Two Tone Lipstick. Though lipsticks do not provide as much moisture as lip balms, both products can be layered to ensure your lips are not dry throughout the day, with the added benefit of providing some color.

Keep the Color

When searching for a lip product that is long lasting and able to stay on throughout the day, the perfect solution would be a lip tint or lip lacquer. Though these products are highly pigmented, they tend to dry out your lips. Here is a special tip on how to keep your lips moisturized while maintaining color all day long: apply lip balm onto clean lips before lightly applying lip tint. To ensure that the color stays, make sure that the lip product has dried before eating or drinking anything, or the color will most definitely fade. Some recommended products include Etude House’s Matte Chic Lip Lacquer and Peripera’s various collections of lip tints (e.g., Ink Airy Velvet Tint, Tint Water, and Ink the Velvet Lip Tint).

Glossy or Matte?

The final step in choosing the perfect lip product is deciding on the type of finishing texture you want on your lips. There are usually two options: glossy or matte. Typically, glossy/watery lip products provide added moisture, seeing as it’s necessary to achieve their intended final look on the lips. Glossy/watery products also give makeup a more natural look due to many of their softer colors. Matte lip products often go hand in hand with sexier, bolder styles, especially if darker colors are chosen. However, they tend to be drying; there is usually less moisture involved in the process of achieving a matte look in order to allow the lips to fully take in the product.

The amount of options available for choosing lip products are definitely confusing to many. Nevertheless, our tips will surely help you choose the right type of product to complete your makeup look. What is your favorite type of lip product to use on a daily basis? Let us know in the comments below!
