TRCNG Fights Hopelessness in “Missing”
After a long hiatus the rookie group, TRCNG is back with their new single album Rising, featuring title track “Missing.” Just a few days before the release, the group of ten under TS Entertainment named their fandom Champion, at the request of the fans. Following the naming ceremony, the dectet released a powerful message through “Missing,” that was fitting just for the Teen Rising Champion in a New Generation.
The Single
The track gets initiated by Hakmin’s breezy vocals as he sings, “Darkness spreads in my white heart,” indicating about the internal struggle dealt in the single. As Hohyeon graces us with rapid rap lines, the piece drops in as a heavy EDM. The high-paced instrumental backup surprisingly shines more limelight on the vocalists’ soaring verses. The heavy beat vents out the pain of agony and anxiety adding up to the tear jerking lyrics. “I can feel the dream I want. But, I don’t see myself in it,” sings Kangmin, which can be related to every dreamer of the generation. The internal conflict without an understanding or a solution keeps the members in fear and their minds distorted, placing them away from the burdening world. Amidst the turmoil, the chorus wins over with confidence in the climax singing, “I will never lose my way inside my heart.” The penned words play a strong role as every line is rich with sentimental angst, which undoubtedly stirs up the built-up emotions of the listeners.
The Music Video
The video opens with lines “I couldn’t do anything,” letting the audience understand the hopelessness feeling present in the ambience. The tension of the angsty storyline starts from the very beginning, as Hakmin decides to take his life. The deep concept of depression and loneliness prevails, as the members place themselves in different positions of a troubled individual. Digging in deeper with depression, the shots capture various defense mechanisms, as Kangmin is found isolated in spite of his friends around him and Wooyeop exercises as a displacement reaction. The symptoms of stress eating and converting fear into art were also portrayed by Hyunwoo and Siwoo. The music video not only illustrates the struggle of despair, but projects on overcoming them with strong will and by surrounding ourselves with positive people in the end. As a form of pouring out the suppressed agony, the dectet come together to perform a highly synchronized choreography. The fierce performance with uniformity undoubtedly sets a platform to show the act’s team work.
TRCNG, mostly labeled as an underrated act, has found a perfect concept to relate and connect with their audience. The moving track with a sentimental touch has already started gathering viewers with its hooking beats and concept. In addition, the new album also includes their pre-released single “Paradise” and a “Missing” instrumental along with two other tracks, making it a pure delight for the Champions.
