Tips to Determining Your Skin Tone

Trying to find one’s skin tone can be quite confusing for most people. When shopping for foundation and concealers, most products tend to offer shades with three different types of undertones; neutral, warm, and cool tones, so it’s important to know what works best for you. There are plenty of tests that you can do to discover your own undertone but it can still be tricky getting it right. Here are some easy tips to figuring out what type of skin tone you have and some color recommendations to best suit your shade along with always show off your best sides.

Warm Skin Tone

To determine if you have a warm skin tone, firstly the undertone has to be determined. A yellow, peach, or golden undertone would definitely mean a warm skin tone. Another way is by looking at the color of your veins, people with warm skin tones tend to have a green or greenish blue color show up on their veins. Matching silver or gold onto the skin is yet another way to discover your skin’s undertone. For warm skin tones, gold compliments the skin perfectly. When you’re in the sun for a long period of time, do you tan or does your skin immediately burn and turn red? For those who tan, they tend to have a darker skin tone or warmer skin tones, so red toned blush and lipstick best suit warmer skin tones. As for for eyeshadow, more neutral and natural colors would match perfectly such as gold, copper, and brown.  Suggestions for those who want to change their hair color include red, golden blonde, caramel, and brown would compliment the face very nicely.

Cool Skin Tone

Those with cool skin tones have a pink or fair undertone. Through looking at your veins under sunlight, people with cool skin tones will find that their veins appear blue or purple. When choosing jewelry, silver best compliments their skin. Do you immediately burn when you go into the sun? That means that you have a cool skin tone, which means that sunscreen is your  best friend. People who burn easily need to be more careful while in the sun and remember to always protect it with SPF to avoid sun damage. The lipstick and blush colors that compliment those with cool tones are rosy pinks, berry, and violets. They should have a blue or purple undertone to the colors to make sure that it matches your skin. For eyeshadow, they should be colors like silver, blue, purple, and magenta. Looking to try a new hair shade? Ash colors look best on cooler skin tones.

Neutral Skin Tone

Those with neutral colors are quite lucky because they have both warm and cool skin tones. When looking at your veins, if you can’t determine if you have blue, green, or purple colored veins, then you definitely have a neutral skin tone. For lipsticks and blush, the range goes from red to pink. But for eyeshadows, light and natural colors look best such as light peach, dusty and dried rose pinks as well as greens. For neutral skin tones, try to avoid bright, neon colors because they tend to cover and overwhelm your skin’s undertones.
