penomeco Has Fans Asking What “if” In New EP
On September 9, FANXY CHILD member penomeco dropped his two-track EP if. The two songs, “Do My Thang” and “Senorita,” provide the perfect bridge between the upbeat tones of summer and the smooth tones of fall.
The first track, “Do my Thang,” starts with the sounds of nature set against the scratch of a pen and pages of a notebook turning. The melody of the song is soft with a bright piano line overlaying gentle strums from a bass. The beat doesn’t hit as hard as one might expect with a penomeco track, but it is still enjoyable. The sounds of nature, more specifically the sound of birds chirping, return towards the middle of the song like an adlib and continues until the end when the sounds of pages turning and pen scratches return. The overall tone of the song is playful and will have listeners bobbing their heads along from start to finish.
“Senorita,” the title track, features nafla, winner of Show Me The Money 777. The song begins with the sound of a cafe and a gentle guitar before launching into the familiar Latin-fusion sound that has defined this summer's releases. The verses are more muted versions of the chorus while the song remains relatively unchanged. This song will make the listener want to get up and dance for sure. The track consists of mostly guitar with little hints of percussion including what sounds like maracas. Perhaps most surprisingly, the last few seconds of the track ends with a new moniker: “Fanxy.”
For a two-song EP, if meets the high expectations penomeco has created for himself as both an artist and a member of FANXY CHILD. Both songs have a definite spot on anyone’s fall playlist.
