B-Sides: Jinyoung Birthday Special
Have you ever listened to an artist whose voice never fails to make you shed a few tears? Among many talented singers in K-Pop, Jinyoung from GOT7 definitely secures his place at the top of the list. Since the main vocalist turned 25 on September 22, let me suggest a few B-side tracks that celebrate his journey with us as an artist.
“My Youth”
“My Youth” is a solo track from Present:You, a full album released by the group during the second half of 2018. The breezy track is a reflection on Jinyoung, while he addresses to his younger self. With gentle rhythmic beats accompanying the honeyed vocals, this solo is one of the best of the album. Jinyoung is a person of words, when it comes to his self-made lyrics. The verses of the track stays encrypted in our hearts forever, as it beautifully weaves innocence, maturity, and reality together to relate with every listener.
“The Day”
The next B-side is another solo track from JJ Project’s second album, Verse 2. After a long break, the duo made their presence in the industry known again by showering us with heart-whelming melodies, including Jinyoung’s song “The Day.” The ballad compares wind and waves to our emotional state while reminiscing on the past memories of life. The subdued instrumental notes emphasize the singer’s soothing vocals. The lyrics sing “The wind that blows on my cheek. The sound of waves that shake my heart,” romanticizing one’s lost and gloomy state with nature.
“The End”
“The End” is yet another brilliant work by Jinyoung for GOT7’s latest album, SPINNING TOP: Security & Insecurity. Penned by the singer himself, Jinyoung lets out his anxious feeling of ending the journey as seven. The pop track with synchronizing beats and drops delight our eardrums as we reflect on the artistically written verses. The emotional journey with the members prevail with lines like “Even if our world ends, it will remain in this song,” and leaves us moved by singing, “It is the end for us now. My love, love, love, now goodbye.”
“Thank you”
“Thank you” is definitely IGOT7’s favorite of the century. The track from GOT7’s mini album Eyes On You can be considered an anthem that declares the love shared between the idols and their fandom. With immense gratitude and love, Jinyoung has once again written a thank you note to his fans in the form of a ballad. The mellow lyrics sing, “A green galaxy is forming waves as it’s dancing. I, who think that those shining waves will last forever,” bringing their concert memories to life. If I were to quote more, the whole song will end up below as the song reminiscences on the entire journey together as one through the years. Above all, “Thank you” is one of GOT7’s highly recommended songs for anyone who would love to join hands with the septet.
