Get to Know Chungha

As a former I.O.I. member and now a successful solo artist, Chungha has made herself known through her dance performances, catchy music, and collaborations with many artists.

Who is Chungha?

  • Her official fandom name is Byulharang. Byulha meaning “who shines just like the stars” and harang meaning “to fly together” and rang meaning to do something together. Altogether it represents Chungha and her fans as they will be each other's stars and will grow together.

Her Releases

Chungha began her career on the TV survival show Produce 101. During the show she became well known for her freestyling dance abilities and placed fourth on the program, winning her a spot as a member of the girl group I.O.I. This group later debuted on May 4, 2016 with the release of the EP Chrysalis with the title track “Dream Girls.

After the disbandment of I.O.I. on January 29, 2017, MNH Entertainment announced that Chungha would have a solo debut. Her EP Hands on Me was released on June 7, 2017 with the title track “Why Don’t You Know.”

On January 17, 2018, Chungha released her second EP, Offset, with the title track “Rollercoaster.” Shortly after that, on July 18, 2018, she released her third EP, Blooming Blue, with the title track “Love U.” She won many awards for these songs in 2018, including “AAA Favorite Award” and the MAMA award for “Best Solo Dance Performance” for the song “Rollercoaster.” She also won “Best Solo Dance Track” for “Rollercoaster” at the Korea Popular Music Awards.  

Her next comeback was not until January 2, 2019 with the single “Gotta Go,” which won “Best Female Dance” at the 2019 Melon Music Awards and “Best Solo Dance Performance” at the 2019 MAMA awards. On June 24, 2019, Chungha released her fourth EP, Flourishing, with the title track “Snapping.”

Chungha’s popularity has continued to grow each year, and she has collaborated with many artists, including Rich Brian on “These Nights” and Paul Kim with the song “Loveship.” With her captivating dance moves, Chungha will never go unnoticed.
