B-Sides: Best of 2019 (Staff Picks)

Happy New Year 2020! While walking into this New Year, we the staff of The Kraze decided to pick our favorite B-sides of 2019 to kick start your New Year with.

“Sunrise” – ATEEZ

Suggested by Roxy, Marketing Director

The mellow track from ATEEZ’s TREASURE EP.FIN: All To Action makes the listeners feel at home and comforts them to keep going forward. With breezy instrumentals and gentle verses, the song is another personal favorite of every ATINY. The chorus singing, “Though we don’t feel like it sometimes, just keep it up,” pleases both the heart and ears of the listener as they feel deeply connected with the group.

“Every person loves to have a comforting track from their favorite group, and that's exactly what ATEEZ's ‘Sunrise’ provides for ATINY. ‘Sunrise’ is a daily reminder to put your best into everything and that no matter where you are, you're working as hard as you can. The sympathy that drips from the lyrics is a warm reminder that the boys are behind you, cheering for you even in the hardest of times.” - Roxy

“Chica” – CHUNGHA

Suggested by Georgia, Writer

This track from CHUNGHA’s fourth mini album Flourishing is a perfect song to be part of a fighter playlist. “Chica” means“female friend” in Spanish and calls out to women out there to keep trying and be themselves. With house beats, the song hooks the listener and makes them go wilder while chanting the catchy chorus, “Women now, Women now, Women go wilder.”

“CHUNGHA's repertoire is already exceptional and ‘Chica’ is just another fantastic addition to the list. ‘Chica’ is all about female empowerment and self-love, and quite frankly, deserves so much more attention for the power and beauty behind this B-side” - Georgia

“Snap Shoot” – SEVENTEEN

Suggested by Kelly, Writer/Editor

The next song in the list is from SEVENTEEN’s album, An Ode. SEVENTEEN, despite showing off their mature and dark aura in 2019, give a glimpse of their peppy side through their B-sides. “Snap Shoot” is about being together and making memories. With sweet and bright lyrics, “You beside me and me beside you, let’s capture this moment,” the song is fun and enjoyable, bringing wide smiles on the listeners’ faces.

“Just when you thought SEVENTEEN had fully outgrown their tried-and-true ‘fresh teen’ concept in favor of darker themes for songs like ‘Fear,’ the boy group gave us the unapologetically bright ‘Snap Shoot.’ In a notably mature album, ‘Snap Shoot’ not only feels like a breath of fresh air for its cheerfulness but also in its electric fusion of gospel and Broadway elements. Simply put, ‘Snap Shoot’ is neither the song I expected nor the song I knew I wanted from the group, but it ended up being the song I needed in 2019, if even just for the live stages.” - Kelly

“In The Morning” - JBJ95

Suggested by Roxy, Marketing Director

This song from JBJ95’s third mini album Spark keeps the mood dreamy and refreshing. The sweet track confesses about being in love and being reminded of the loved one from the very morning. With an up-beat rhythm, the chorus sings, “You are the first thing that comes to my mind in the morning,” making the listeners feel fresh and gentle.

“I've always found this song to be super comforting and warm. Kenta and Sanggyun's style of vocalization really fits the R&B genre of this song, and I think that makes it even more spectacular. Just like the warmth of a morning cup of coffee, ‘In The Morning’ brings up a refreshing feeling with the promise of a bright day ahead.” – Roxy
