Prior to the release of Garlic, Omega Sapien pre-released “Ah! Ego” and “Serenade for Mrs. Jeon,” getting fans hyped up for the full release of Garlic. Garlic was released on September 22 with “Happycore” taking the mantle of lead single. “Happycore,” like its predecessor “Serenade for Mrs. Jeon,” is a mind trip that takes on ‘90s video quality mixed with a huge influence of Japanese culture and style.
Described as a self-portrait, the album allows Omega Sapien to reflect on his past and present selves, and he also describes how his music is akin to garlic, the natural antibiotic. Offering a variety of sounds and styles, there is so much to unpack with this album that will throw listeners for a loop.
For those who are looking for something quirky, eclectic, and very much out of the box, Omega Sapien (as well as Balming Tiger) is an artist that should be on everyone’s radar. Omega Sapien and Garlic prove that there is space for alternative sounds and that one should be open-minded to experimental sounds as it’s easy to miss gems such as this album.
