BAE173 Is Out of This World in Debut

Familiar faces are back in play for new Pocketdol Studio boy group BAE173! Fans of X1 and H&D will be delighted to see the familiar faces of Hangyul and Dohyon, who join the lineup alongside Junseo, J-Min, Yoojun, Muzin, Youngseo, Doha, and Bit. The nine-member group made their official debut on November 19 with their first mini-album INTERSECTION: SPARK and title track “Crush on U.”

The Title: “Crush on U”

Debuts these days seem to go one of two ways: either the dark and intense concepts or the softer, bright school boy concept. BAE173 definitely fits in the latter category and even without the video, it’s heard in the song. The upbeat pop track gives off vibes similar to SEVENTEEN’s debut “Adore U,” which adds a bit of nostalgia for older K-Pop fans. There is an added element of the space theme in the melody, which is most prominently featured in the breakdown after the second chorus. The synth-heavy melody is extremely catchy and a good example of a classic, upbeat boy group track.

The music video showcases the cheerful nature of the track, with bright colors dominating the visual space and the use of creative animation that is particularly eye-catching. Before the song begins, we are hit with elements of an outer space community to imply the otherworldly nature of the boys, and most of the video is set in this type of backdrop. It’s a bit surprising to see this much use of special effects for a smaller company, but it definitely does a good job at catching attention. While the visual effects are definitely the main focus on the video, there are a number of choreography shots to give a taste of the group’s dancing ability. It’s an all-around fun track and a good start for the new boy group.
