The Universe of PENTAGON

The nine-member boy group PENTAGON has never shied away from unique concepts and music. From quirky to dark concepts, PENTAGON is not afraid to be unapologetically different.

Who Is PENTAGON?

PENTAGON debuted on October 10, 2016 under Cube Entertainment. The group consists of members Hui, Jinho, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yanan, Yeo One, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok. Former member E-Dawn left PENTAGON in 2018 due to a dating scandal. Before their debut, the members participated in the Mnet survival show Pentagon Maker. After the show, PENTAGON was originally going to debut with seven members, but they later decided to include all the participants from the show.

PENTAGON debuted as an official group with the song “Gorilla,” along with their first mini-album titled PENTAGON. The mini-album peaked at No. 7 on the Gaon charts.

Months later, they released the title song “Can You Feel It” along with their second mini-album Five Senses, which reached No. 5 on the Gaon charts. Their third mini-album Ceremony with title track “Critical Beauty” was their first album to enter the U.S. Billboard World Chart, landing at No. 14. Their next mini-album Demo_1 was released in September 2017, with the title track “Like this.” It charted even higher on the U.S. Billboard World Chart, landing at No. 5. Shortly after, they released Demo_2 in November 2017 with the title track “Runaway” and secondary track, “Violet,” written by member Kino.

The Rise of PENTAGON

PENTAGON’S popularity shot up in 2018 with the release of their mini-album Positive and title track “Shine.” The song was produced by members Hui and E’Dawn. In the lyrics PENTAGON is not afraid to call themselves “losers” for unrequited love. Through its catchy beat, unique childlike music video, and distinct shoot dance as the focal point, “Shine” gained attention worldwide, and the music video currently has over 170 million views. It was PENTAGON’s first song to chart on Billboard's World Digital Songs Chart at No. 10 as well charting on MelOn’s Top 100 Real Time Chart

After the release of Positive at the end of 2018, PENTAGON released mini-album Thumbs up with title track “Naughty Boy” and in 2019 released mini-album Genie: Us with pop tune title track “Sha la la.” In the summer of 2019, PENTAGON came out with the title track “Humph!” “Naughty Boy” and “Humph!” continue the childlike theme from “Shine” in both their videos and dances.

PENTAGON has recently released their first full album Universe: The Black Hall with the title track “Dr. Bebe.” The music video branches away from their childlike concept and takes a darker approach.

With their first world tour in 2019, PENTAGON has been constantly growing. Because PENTAGON embraces their weird side and has a diverse range in their style as well as their self-produced songs, this group will continue to surprise their listeners and their dedicated fans, Universe.
