Taeyeon and “Happy”
Taeyeon is known both for her clear voice and for hitting incredibly high notes. After admitting to suffering from depression in 2019 with plans to focus on treatment and her mental health in 2020, Taeyeon is officially making a surprising comeback with her new single, “Happy.”
The Beginning
Taeyeon is an artist under SM Entertainment. She debuted August 5, 2007 as the leader of nine-member girl group, Girls’ Generation. Their first music video was “Into the New World.” With memorable tunes and unforgettable choreographies, Girls’ Generation had enormous influence over the rising popularity of the K-Pop industry worldwide. Their most recognizable song that is often covered by other K-Pop groups is “Gee.”
Solo Career
Taeyeon began working on her solo music in 2014 and released her first EP I with title track also named “I” in October 2015. The EP immediately charted on the Gaon Album Chart as well as the Billboard World Albums Chart.
Her second EP, Why, was released in June 2016. With its EDM tropical beats, the track charted at No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums Chart. She held her first solo concert, Butterfly Kiss, and is the first girl group artist to hold her own concert while still being an active member.
Taeyeon’s third and fourth albums, My Voice and Something New, were just as popular, both charting on the Gaon Album Chart, with Something New charting at No. 4 on the Billboard World Albums Chart. Her most recent album, Purpose, was released in October 2019 with title track “Spark.”
Not only is Taeyeon’s soulful voice a distinct reason for her popularity, but the pure dedication and honesty between her and her fans has allowed Taeyeon to blossom. Taeyeon is not afraid to talk about her mental health and gives strength to her fans who may also be facing difficult situations.
