1TEAM Brings Their Love to Fans at First U.S. Tour
On their second stop of their first ever U.S. Hello! Just One tour, K-pop rookie group 1TEAM, under Liveworks Company, hit trendy Williamsberg on a Sunday night ready to set New York on fire. The quintet may have only debuted a year ago, but with three mini-albums released already, the guys came ready to set the East Coast on fire. Singing their roster of songs combined with covers, games and heartfelt letters, 1TEAM touched the hearts of the crowd. Brought by MyMusicTaste, Studio PAV and fan support, NY TEAM ONEs were screaming out their support and love for them.
1TEAM is made up of members Rubin, BC, Junghoon, Jinwoo and Jehyun. Those less familiar may recognize BC and Rubin from their Boys24 and MIXNINE appearances, but in this crowd of fans, it seemed like they were strangers to no one. Dressed in suits, the guys looked incredibly sharp and brought strong rhythmic vibes as they started their set with “Make This,” the title track of their latest album. Though they unexpectedly, they ran into an audio malfunction at the start, Team Ones were singing loud enough to cover the lack of music, and the guys’ professionalism shined as they were able to smoothly transition out and restart again. Following would be “TAK!” from their second mini-album before pausing to chat with the fans for their introductions.
During their introductions, which were mostly done in English, sounds of fans chanting “BC” filled the air. Fueled on by the audience, the guys fanned the flames to include chants for the rest of team before moving onto “Love It,” followed by “Ice in the Cup,” a favorite song composed by BC who had produced many of their tracks.
Taking a moment to discuss their New York Top 5 wish list, the guys spoke of their dreams from wanting to be on one of Times Square’s Billboards to a photo with Lady Liberty, to a Yankee game and grabbing some Shake Shack. The guys laundry list for New York wishes showed their excitement to be in the big city.
Their appreciation for being in the states expanded into some favorite songs that they wanted to sing. Covering Maroon 5’s, “Girls Like You” and Justin Bieber’s, “Yummy” to start, they showed that they had no issue singing and rapping in English. In fact, during the evening, BC commented about his English skill concerns, which seemed unfounded as he spoke fluently throughout the night. It seemed like his Texas youth had not been forgotten.
When returning on stage after their VCR (where the members spoke about their thoughts and concerns for this tour), the concept went from dark sexy to red and white adorable. Speaking to Team Ones again, they wanted to share their thoughts from a year ago via letters written displaying their genuine hearts and hard-working spirits that had everyone touched and sighing.
BC spoke about their desire to share different concepts, and it was now time for the “lovely” concept. Starting with “‘Bout U”, which had everyone singing the melodic hook, and continuing onwards with a cover of Post Malone & Swae Lee’s “Sunflower,” the concept seemed a success as the latter song was used as a moment for fan service as they sang.
MMT fans often get the lucky number game for a signed Polaroid, and this show was no different, though in this case the fans had to do a mission from picking their favorite songs to singing a high note to win. The games continued with Jehyun’s dance mission that was assigned due to a poor showing at a prior teamwork test. It may have been a mission, but his impressive dance skills to SEVENTEEN’s “Fear” showed his mastery of the choreography. Soon enough games were over and it was time again for music with "Rolling Rolling,” which they revealed was filmed in LA. Their final cover would be PRETTYMUCH’s “Teacher” before returning to their own songs “Countdown” and the ever popular “Vibe.” The fanchant at the start of “Vibe” was definitely on point and one of the more successful fanchant executions in this city.
Before their last song of “Not Afraid,” there was another pull at the heartstrings as the guys read touching letters that they had written specifically for this tour. New York wasn’t ready to let them go yet though, and changing into their merchandise hoodies, the guys came ready to pump up the crowd again with a repeat performance of “Vibe.” Though the concert was over, the spirit of the night was not. When 1TEAM announced their official fandom name they stated that fans were as much of a part of 1TEAM as members for “being the best supporters to each other and going forward towards the same goal as partners.” It was clear in that hall in New York, that the symbiotic relationship was in full swing and that New York would be ever ready to embrace them again.
