Get to Know Kang Daniel
Solo artist and CEO of his own agency, KONNECT Entertainment, Kang Daniel is having a comeback with the release of his mini-album, CYAN.
The Beginnings
Kang Daniel began his career through Produce 101 as the second season winner. Produce 101 allows trainees from different entertainment companies to compete for a spot in a group that will debut. The top participants of Produce 101 Season 2 formed the boy group WANNA ONE, which debuted on August 7, 2017 with the song “Energetic.”
Wanna One released four albums, including 1x1=1 (To Be One), 0+1=1 (I Promise You), 1+x=1 (Undivided), and “1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny).” They also went on a world tour, visiting 13 different cities in 2018. They are well-known for their power in the media as they had many brand deals and ranked second in Forbes’ Korea Power Celebrity in 2018. However, after two years of Wanna One promotions, they disbanded in 2019.
Solo Career
When Wanna One disbanded, Kang Daniel took a six-month break before returning to the K-Pop industry with full force. The idol ended his contract with LM Entertainment and created his own agency, KONNECT Entertainment. He named the agency by combining “Korea” and “connect” into one word, as he plans to connect Korea to the rest of the world through this company.
Kang Daniel made his official solo debut on July 25, 2019 with the album Color on Me and title track “What Are You Up To.” He was given his first win on Music Bank on August 9 and broke records for the first day and first week for physical albums sold for a solo artist on the Hanteo Chart.
With the release of his new album CYAN and teaser for the song “2U,” Kang Daniel is sure to bring us another hit.
