Throwback Thursday: Fight Songs

Sometimes you just need an extra push. Whether it be some words of comfort or a swift kick in the butt, our favorite K-Pop artists know just how to keep us going. For those days when it feels like you don’t have any fight left in you, check out some of our favorite punch-packing hits below.

“Can’t Nobody” - 2NE1

Released in 2010, “Can’t Nobody” is the sixth single off 2NE1’s first full-album To Anyone. In true 2NE1 fashion, the song is about being your baddest self without concern for the opinions of others. In addition to peaking at No. 2 on the Gaon Chart, “Can’t Nobody” was also released as an English version, because why be badass in just one language when you could be badass in two?

“Heroine” - Sunmi

Sunmi’s 2018 single “Heroine” is a bit tongue-in-cheek in its inclusion on this list, as the song is actually about blindly putting a lover before oneself. In the song, Sunmi sings of letting her lover steal the show and promises to bend over backwards in order to ensure that her lover is the star. However, with the hopeful tone of the song, and even more so the music video, you have to wonder if Sunmi was really the heroine of the story all along.

“Just Go” - SONAMOO

“Just Go,” the second single off SONAMOO’s 2014 debut mini-album Deja Vu, is a pep-talk in musical form. The tune is light and poppy and so appropriately positive that it’ll feel like you can accomplish any dream you’ve ever had with just one listen. After all, no amount of bad days can set you back when SONAMOO is there to help you declare that “life is gonna be wonderful.”

“Outro: Wings” - BTS

No one can deny that BTS’s Wings era was as iconic as it was angsty. In the two albums released during this time, WINGS and You Never Walk Alone, the boy group told stories of the trials, tribulations, and temptations that come with growing up. It was only fitting, then, that the era ended on a literal high note. Enter “Outro: Wings,” a song about holding your head high, standing your ground, and sticking to your guts, even if the odds aren’t in your favor. Suga’s verse in particular is perhaps one of the group’s most inspirational in their discography.
