How to Achieve the Perfect Hangover Makeup Look
“Hangover makeup” is usually defined as a heavy blush look that has so far garnered major attention around the world, and it’s even popular with many Korean celebrities including HyunA.
This trend originated in Japan in 2015, originally termed “Igari” after Japanese fashion designer Igari Shinobu. This style of makeup rapidly spread to Korea and then finally to the rest of the world, and it’s meant to recreate the flushed look when one has had too many drinks, highlighting a refreshingly youthful, bold aura that accentuates the eyes.
Two Styles
Style 1: Under-Eye
There are two key components for this first look:
Puffy under-eyes
Flushed skin
Puffy Under-Eyes
The semblance of puffy under-eyes is created by emphasizing what Koreans call aegyo sal, or charming fat. This can be created by contouring the eye bags, usually by drawing a half-circle over the deepest part of your under-eye crease with a contour stick or even a darker eye shadow and then proceeding to blend it.
Flushed Skin
Applying a blush directly under your eyes will not only help conceal any under-eye discoloration, but it will also draw the attention towards your eyes and make them the main focus of your makeup look. The best way to apply the blush of your choice is to simply pat it onto the skin using your fingers.
Style 2: Drunk Blush
This look focuses strongly on the cheeks and consists of two components:
Blush
Highlighter
Blush
With this look, you’ll apply blush across the cheekbones and over the nose. One tip to further accentuate the makeup is to use two types of blush; having two different colors will create a more natural flush. You’ll want to use a tinted blush first followed by a powder blush to finish.
Highlighter
Applying highlighter to both the cheekbones and nose will further elevate and complete this look.
