EXID Solji’s “Rains Again”: Her First Solo Release Under A New Agency

EXID’s superb vocalist Solji released a heartbreaking ballad, “Rains Again (오늘따라 비가 와서 그런가 봐),” on July 9. This is her first release after joining a new agency, C-JeS Entertainment, home of artists like Kim Jaejoong and actor Ryu Junyeol.

The powerful song is Solji’s first release since EXID’s last group comeback, “Me & You.” It recalls a past relationship, metaphorically comparing it to the rainfall. She revisits fond memories that also occurred on rainy days, but leaves them in the past, only visiting them when she wants to reminisce. The orchestral accompaniment makes for a grand arrangement, the violins and an electric guitar complementing her strong vocals. It wouldn’t be a Solji track without the epic high note in the bridge followed by a brief key change, adding depth to the song.

The music video features YG Entertainment rookie actors Lee Kitaek and Jo Hyejoo in an intimate five-minute love story. It chronicles snapshot moments of the couple’s happy memories, particularly those that happened when caught in the rain. This brings complexity to the song’s meaning; the rain triggers a bittersweet nostalgia. “Rains Again” contains all of the elements of a perfect OST and succinctly captures the essence of the love story told.
