B1A4 Sandeul’s “Smile Box” Offers a Light and Comforting Melody

If you’re in need of a sweet summer tune in the midst of this chaotic time, look no further than B1A4 Sandeul’s new single, “Smile Box (작은 상자),” released on July 2.

“Smile Box” has an instantly calming effect, with its gentle acoustic melody and the soft harmonies. Sandeul’s little box is reminiscent of when children would make the most out of household items, using their imagination to create a more lovely world. When in the box, it is peaceful and simple—it’s a temporary shield against all the hurtful, scary things outside.

The music video similarly follows an adorable box person who leaves his own box and ventures into the world to meet new people, including Oh My Girl’s Seunghee, child actor Kim Kanghoon, and actor Lee Yikyung. Although he deals with some setbacks and feelings of loneliness, the box person ends up uniting with other box people, who make the world a little more colorful and joyful.

In May, Sandeul also released the single “Lazy Me.” Both of these tracks provide a sense of comfort during this COVID-19 period. While “Lazy Me” admits to the unproductive feelings of doing nothing all day, “Smile Box” is the perfect pick-me-up to help see the spaces we’re confined to in a positive light. Both are perfect choices for anyone needing to quiet their anxieties.

Sandeul has also released two equally adorable live versions of “Smile Box,” one expanding on the scenes with Seunghee and the other during a beautifully pink sunset. Check them out below!
