Throwback Thursday: Soft Rock Anthems
Oh, the wonderful world of Korean rock. With everything from hard bangers to heartbreaking ballads, there’s a little something for everyone. This week, we focus on the more mellow side of Korean rock with some of The Kraze’s favorite soft rock hits.
“for lovers who hesitate” - JANNABI
Those familiar with the Korean indie scene know that JANNABI has been around for a while, but their 2019 hit “for lovers who hesitate” launched the band to new heights. The song topped the MelOn chart and earned the band numerous awards at Korean year-end shows. Lead vocalist Choi Junghoon’s wispy voice alone is the stuff of soft rock dreams.
“It’s Raining” - Vincent Blue
Vincent Blue is a regular when it comes to K-Drama OSTs, but his 2019 single “It’s Raining” also gained him a considerable amount of fame. Set against a laid back guitar, the singer-songwriter lets his soulful vocals do the talking in this melancholy track.
“I Loved You” - DAY6
Released as the September single of their Every Day6 project in 2017, DAY6’s “I Loved You” is one of the band’s easier listens. Though the quintet has no problem pulling off hard-hitting guitar riffs or groovy bass lines, they have a true talent when it comes to their emotive vocals as showcased in this song. Not only a great track, “I Loved You” also comes with the added perk of the band’s self-recorded ambient sounds in the opening of the song as showcased here.
“Hollywood” - The Black Skirts
“Hollywood” is a single released in 2015 by The Black Skirts. The track likens the throes of romance to the rose-colored feelings of Hollywood. The crooning guitar that weaves its way under the synth and drum tracks is what carries the song, giving “Hollywood” its almost otherworldly feel.
