August Favorites
August has been a busy month for comebacks, and luckily there’s been a variety of sounds for all different tastes! This month we chose some of our stand out favorites within the myriad of releases for the month.
Favorite Song: “Boca” - Dreamcatcher”
Everyone knows The Kraze is a Dreamcatcher loving house, so “Boca” coming up on the favorites list should be no surprise to anyone. “Boca” itself is somewhat unexpected at first, as the girls go for a new sound that has Latin influence and appears to not have any sort of heavy rock influences at all. Despite that initially being jarring, the girls actually make it work surprisingly well, and the addition of the heavy electric guitar at the chorus creates an incredibly unique sound that only Dreamcatcher could master.
Favorite Album: LIVED - ONEUS
ONEUS has always managed to have pretty impressive title tracks since debut, and that certainly remains true with their latest track “TO BE OR NOT TO BE.” But despite that, sometimes the rest of their albums fall short in comparison. Luckily that cycle was broken with the latest mini-album LIVED, which features six different tracks with very different sounds. Fans of Road to Kingdom will be thrilled to see final track “COME BACK HOME” included on the discography along with the other new releases.
Favorite Music Video: “GUNSHOT” - KARD
KARD has been somewhat hit or miss with their releases in recent years, so expectations for “GUNSHOT” were not super high. But we were pleasantly surprised to be graced with a rather strong single. The song itself is a heavy subject on emotional manipulation, but it’s the music video that really drives home the point. The most intense visualization of this is Jiwoo’s center stage position at the beginning and end of the video, first where we see her zipping up a body bag, and the end where we see her pulling a gun and shooting a different version of herself. It’s a powerful metaphor. But besides that particular scene, we see all the members of KARD in different dark atmospheres full of anger, and the way they portray those intense emotions is fantastic. The track is surely cathartic for anyone who has experienced such intensity themselves, and the video only helps to complement that message.
Favorite Music Show Performance: “Inception” - ATEEZ on M!COUNTDOWN
Let’s be honest here: nobody is doing performance like ATEEZ these days. With yet another voter dual title release last month, the world has been abuzz about ATEEZ and the group’s multiple talents as promotions continued into August. “Inception” is only a stronger title track when paired with performance, and that was abundantly clear in this particular music show performance on M!COUNTDOWN. Not only is the passion overflowing from each member, but the fashion choices are impeccable and bring heavy old school punk vibes with the red and black plaid paired with solid black and dark makeup. We have to especially point out San’s performance in this one, his stage presence overwhelming as he takes center. If you’re not stanning ATEEZ at this point, you’re missing out bigtime.
