Rolling Quartz is Your New Favorite Female K-Rock Band
With a handful of successful Korean rock bands like N.Flying, DAY6, and The Rose, there’s clearly a market in K-Pop for more traditional bands who perform with instruments rather than showcase intricate choreography. Unfortunately, these popular acts are entirely composed of men, meaning there is more than enough room for a female rock band to emerge. Enter everyone’s new favorite group: Rolling Quartz. The group has been blowing up online for their killer covers, image, music, and for filling the female rock band void we didn’t realize we had. Though they’re just getting onto the scene, they’re already releasing content for fans to get to know them better and are quickly growing their currently-unnamed fanbase. Whether you’re a rock fan or not, here’s a go-to guide on the group breaking the K-Pop mold that you’ll surely want to look into.
First off, Rolling Quartz has five members: main vocalist Jayoung, guitarists Iree and Hyunjung, bassist Areum, and drummer Yeongeun. The girls have tattoos, piercings, and personal Instagram accounts that allow them to express themselves freely and further prove that they’re outliers in the industry. Though there isn’t a ton of information available about the group online, they are known to have debuted in August 2019 and recently opened up a Twitter account which gained thousands of followers in no time. Any act that’s able to amass such enthusiasm with little music to their name will more than likely fare well and the fact that they bring something different and fresh is more than perfect to make them stand out.
Music-wise, the group has demonstrated great potential through multiple covers uploaded on their official YouTube channel. From Paramore to Lady Gaga, both as individuals and as a group, the members have given us a peek into their own music tastes and what they’re capable of through performance. They’re stylish, yet rock and roll, so we have no choice but to stan.
If you want original music, so far the girls have uploaded one song on their Spotify called “Random,” a mellow track with strong vocals that builds into a more intense ballad as it progresses. The girls have been performing at events in Seoul, so let’s hope we encounter more of their music in the future as they steadily earn a bigger and more global fanbase. We’re always open to new female acts who can hold their own in male dominated categories, so best of luck to these girls as they make their mark and attract new listeners with their dedication and charm.
