Bite Size Dramas

Sometimes life gets in the way of precious K-Drama time and it can be difficult to binge watch your favorite series when you simply don’t have the time. It can also be daunting having to watch a lengthy, completed series but luckily K-Dramas come in various formats, including miniseries that are digestible and easy to watch and range from eight to twelve episodes.

Miniseries tend to be light and fluffy, but a few can be dark or mature, giving audiences more options and genres to choose from. Below is a list of short dramas that are usually under the radar but as enjoyable and entertaining as full-length series.

Nightmare Teacher is a 2016 drama starring Kim Sohyun, Um Kijoon, and Lee Minhyuk depicting the lives of two high schoolers who have to solve the mystery of their fellow classmates’ disappearance. Little do they know that their classmates’ dreams and desires begin to manifest. Eerie occurrences suggest that the new teacher who forms blood contracts with his students is responsible.

Wednesday 3:30 PM is a 2017 drama starring Jin Kijoo and Lee Hongbin as two childhood friends who reconnect and agree to cohabit as adults. After being dumped by her boyfriend, Sun Eunwoo decides to make her ex jealous, creating a fake social media account with the help of Yoon Jaewon, but as the two spend more time together, their feelings are revealed to be less platonic than they had thought.

Gogh, The Starry Night is a 2016 drama starring Kwon Yuri, Kim Youngkwang, and Lee Jihoon that sparks romance and love wars between colleagues of an advertising agency. With plenty of mixed signals consisting of misinterpretations and quiet gestures, Go Ho, an account executive to Lee Woo, realizes she may not simply be a victim of her boss’s fiery temper.

Page Turner is a 2016 drama starring Kim Sohyun, Ji Soo, and Shin Jaeha following a piano prodigy as she tries to readjust to her new life after going blind due to a tragic car accident. With the help of a fellow classmate and her music rival, Yoon Yooseul reclaims her love for music and builds true bonds of friendship.

Girls Generation 1979 is a 2017 drama starring Bona and Young Juseo that delves into the past and looks at the lives of high schoolers in 1979. It’s a coming of age story that centers on Lee Junghee, who has a one sided crush on the popular boy in her neighborhood. To her dismay, she attends a group date and meets a boy that’s not her type, determined to woo her. Through persistence and devotion, Park Hyejoo plans to win over Junghee’s heart despite being constantly rejected.

XX is a 2020 drama starring Hani and Hwang Seungeon as two best friends from college who become frenemies after a fatal incident of mistrust puts a dent in their relationship. Their simpering hate is curbed by their desire to successfully run a speakeasy bar, but love and revenge come hand in hand in this mature girl-crush series as two broken women try to make amends.
