Throwback Thursday: NCT Edition

NCT 2020 is just around the corner and to celebrate, The Kraze is taking a look back at some of the debut tracks that brought us here!

“The 7th Sense” - NCT U

April 2016 saw the debut of NCT in the form of NCT U’s “The 7th Sense.” Consisting of members Taeyong, Ten, Doyoung, Mark, and Jaehyun, the hip-hop track is known to have one of the most difficult choreographies in K-Pop. Though the unit was brand new to the scene, they certainly came out swinging, leaving fans to only wonder what the NCT project had in store.

“Firetruck” - NCT 127

NCT 127 debuted later that July with members Taeyong, Mark, Jaehyun, Taeil, Yuta, Haechan, and Winwin. If “The 7th Sense” hadn’t brought enough attention to NCT, the blaring sirens and punchy beats of “Firetruck” were sure to get the job done, and easily cemented the group’s penchant for in-your-face concepts.

“Chewing Gum” - NCT Dream

Later in August that same year, the teenage-only unit NCT Dream debuted with “Chewing Gum.” Performed by Mark, Haechan, Renjun, Jeno, Chenle, Jaemin, and Jisung, “Chewing Gum” is a high-spirited pop track overflowing with youthful charm. Set against the releases from the other NCT units, it was clear that the members of NCT were just as versatile as they were talented.

“Black on Black” - NCT 2018

In early 2018, NCT came together as one and released their album NCT 2018 Empathy. The full-length album featured releases from all units along with a new song “Black on Black.” Though only Taeyong, Mark, and new member Lucas recorded for the track, all members of NCT were credited for the song, including debuting members Kun and Jungwoo. The result is a particularly stunning performance that proves sometimes quantity and quality go hand in hand.

“Take Off” - WayV

Consisting of Kun, Ten, Winwin, Lucas, and new members Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang, WayV debuted as the China-based unit of NCT with a Chinese version of NCT 127’s “Regular” in January 2019. The unit’s first original release, however, was in May’s “Take Off,” a slinky dance track filled with trap beats that helped WayV bring yet another flavor to NCT.
