Celebrate the End of 2020 With Rolling Quartz’s Debut

Fans of rock music, rejoice! Our only girl band on the scene, Rolling Quartz, has finally made their official debut! If you’re unfamiliar with the band, they’ve been releasing covers for nine or so months, including a rock version of BTS’s hit track “Dynamite” and every emo kids’ favorite song, “Misery Business” by Paramore. We’ve spoken about the group previously in one of our columns, but their first official single “Blaze” has finally been released, marking the end of 2020 on a high note.

The band space in popular K-Pop music has been severely underutilized, with girl bands being even lower on the priority list. There’s no question this genre needed filling, and Rolling Quartz does it so perfectly you’ll find yourself nostalgic for the days of the 2000s when female fronted bands dominated the rock scene.

“Blaze” holds nothing back from the moment it begins, kicking off with a fierce electric guitar riff and a strong bass drum to set the beat. This track brings the flavor of classic female fronted rock bands, straight out of something like Paramore or Flyleaf’s discography. Lead vocalist Jayoung’s voice is husky and strong, a perfect fit for the gritty and powerful sound, and the harmonization with the other members in the chorus fits perfectly. The track even includes a killer guitar solo, making it a quintessential heavy rock track that we have definitely never heard from the Korean music scene. Something about an all female rock band absolutely shredding feels so right.

The visuals are no joke, either. The aesthetic is exactly what you’re picturing, with black centered outfits, chains, fishnets, and platform combat boots. Of course, we can’t forget brightly dyed hair with the ensemble, either. Since it’s not K-Pop per se, there’s no heavy influence on storyline or dancing, just simple band performance with some solo shots thrown in, but it’s classic in that way and somewhat nostalgic for earlier days in music videos.

Check out “Blaze” below and be sure to hype up these queens in their new start!
