Bobby’s Back with Solo Album: LUCKY MAN

Bobby has released his title song,”야 우냐 (U MAD),” bringing us a powerful hip-hop track as an intro to the second solo album that he wrote and produced himself, LUCKY MAN.

“야 우냐 (U MAD)”

The music video is an entertaining and exciting, action-packed cinematic story about a precious CD being stolen by a villain that Bobby must then try to retrieve back. Action scenes include Bobby climbing walls, running, fighting groups of bad guys, and even flying through the sky. Bobby even mentions during the Making Film that he went to an action school to learn how to fight for the music video.

The song’s title perfectly summarizes this aggressive track as it is an homage to Bobby’s haters. The lyrics are quite the diss track as it immediately begins with the lyrics “The loser is doing better than expected/Bet you caught a stomach ache from jealousy” and another example “It looks natural with your head down/Keep it down, are you perhaps a flamingo.” The chorus is a repetition of the line “Why you mad son” to really hone in his attack on the haters and the anger that he feels towards himself. “야 우냐 (U MAD)” is bass-heavy with influences of EDM in the drops while giving us reminder of Bobby’s strong rap flow and the power behind his voice.

LUCKY MAN

This album is a different approach compared to his first solo album Love and Fall that was a more summer-inspired R&B album released back in 2017. LUCKY MAN shows a variety of genres throughout the album and includes collaborations with his iKON members DK and JU-NE. It contains 13 songs and four skits including:

  1. “U MAD”

  2. “SKIT 1”

  3. “RocKstaR”

  4. “NO TIME”

  5. “BrEAk It DoWn”

  6. “SKIT 2”

  7. “In THE DaRk”

  8. “LiLaC”

  9. “Ur SOUL Ur BodY” (feat. DK)

  10. “SKIT 3” (feat. OMAR)

  11. “GOrGeoUs”

  12. “LiAr”

  13. “HeartBROKEN PlaYBoY”

  14. “SKIT 4”

  15. “RaiNinG” (feat. JU-NE)

  16. “Let iT Go”

  17. “DeViL”

Bobby wrote the album with an intention for it to create a story, with each song flowing into the next. The skits are incorporated into the album to express different emotional states for his story. He even used a variation of upper and lower case letters for the names of the songs to create curiosity for the viewer. The diverse use of sounds and genres is also purposeful as it is meant to reflect the different emotions from happiness to sorrow that he has felt throughout his 20s.

Bobby was a part of the creative process from writing and producing all of his music. He even made sure the music video was true to his style whether it be the clothes he was wearing or even the effects in the video having colors and shapes that he likes. This really shows how personal he wanted this album to be and portrays his feelings and style to the listener.
